Everybody needs a platform. . .

In every beauty pageant I know about, pageant contestants are supposed to have a platform. In my niece Elizabeth's case, as Miss San Antonio in the MIss Texas pageant, her platform had to do with breast cancer awareness/education (since her own mom had died of breast cancer when Elizabeth was barely seven years old). Other contestants had platforms like literacy, or diabetes awareness, or things like abolition of child abuse, drug use, etc.

Well, I've decided what MY platform is in this pageant of life.

Well, of course, my MAIN platform is Christ. Without Him I would be NOTHING. NADA. . . I owe him everything.

But there is another (much more secondary) platform for my life. It is this: R. S. V. P.s!!! If you've been around me lately you're not surprised.

Most people may not know exactly what those letters - RSVP - literally mean (Répondez s'il vous plaît" is a French phrase that translates to "Please respond"), BUT MOST people know what they should do when they see them on an invitation.

But do they??? Nooooooooooooo.

For Sophie's shower we (I) sent out out invitations to 93 people. 36 responded, with 8 of those saying they couldn't come, and 28 saying they could. That meant 57 didn't not call or e-mail at all. Were they coming, were they not? This time last week I was in a tizzy. Would I have enough food and drink? Or way too much?
Well, 45 people showed up and we DID have enough, but that's only because I usually err on the side of way-too-much.

Now this sounds like I'm full of sour grapes . . . and that I didn't enjoy doing that shower - or the other shower in March - or doing the upcoming best shower of all (!) on June 21. I really enjoy showers. But not knowing who's coming or not adds a stressor that, well, I don't like. I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH FOOD AND DRINK TO GET ..... and how many plates and cups, and napkins, etc.

So sue me.

Hmm. Maybe I need to chill.

haha I totally feel your pain! I have been stuffing HUNDREDS of wedding invitations and the stamping all of the return envelopes for the RSVP's and wondering how many will end up sitting wasted on someone's counter.... it IS just not very nice... But thank you thank you THANK YOU so much for throwing me the "next best upcoming shower!" I am SO excited!

My hometown...

I am thinking of my hometown now. Mission, Texas. And McAllen, Texas. And Mercedes, Texas, where I was born. And Donna, Texas, so near there...
