Still celebrating . . .

This week - on all my blogs - I've been celebrating Sam's and my 30th wedding anniversary. On my 'What? Are You Kidding Me?' blog I've put up cartoons or one-liners. Frankly it's hard to find funny material that is uplifting about the idea of marriage! I'll give you 3 examples of what I mean:
"Marriage is not a word. It is a sentence--a life sentence."
"Marriage certificate is just another word for a work permit."
"A happy marriage is a matter of giving and taking; the husband gives and the wife takes."

Hello!!?? - I so disagree with those so-called 'funnies'.

Yes, marriage can be a challenge - I mean 2 people from different families moving in together for life. That DOES sound daunting. But it can be wonderful. And, for sure, you have to work at it . . . but, well, .....I won't preach a sermon here.

On my 'Grace Notes' blog I have put up some marriage quotes I like. Here's one that I particularly like.
"For a marriage relationship to flourish, there must be intimacy. It takes an enormous amount of courage to say to your spouse, 'This is me. I'm not proud of it -- in fact, I'm a little embarrassed by it -- but this is who I am.'"
—Bill Hybels

So marriage has been on my mind. . . but not just because of Sam and me. Tomorrow I'm hostessing (I think that's a word) Caroline's bridal shower here. There are seven of us actually as official hostesses, and four 'helpers'.
It should be FUN FUN FUN. Especially since I know we'll have enough food food food. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great weekend.
I will.

I haven't left comments on all your marriage posts this week, but I certainly have enjoyed each one of them. Loved your wedding photo's -- I want to know who your attendants were -- your sister??? I've never seen a photo of her, but I think that beautiful girl must be her. And who is the sweet little girl?

I hope you had a "Fantastic Sam" week celebrating a big milestone in your life.

Can you believe that we actually thought we could get together more often with summer coming upon us??? No way it can happen, BUT -- when we start thinking about our fall schedules, let's try to find a little more time together, huh?

Oh, and I checked out Sam's blog about the Zero Church -- man, I'm really stoked about that idea -- just the kind of thing that gets me excited. Tell him he needs to post again - last post was in March. I want to know what's going on NOW.

See you on the blog -- oh I posted today, finally.

Love you,

I'm never really one to like being the center of attention, BUT you only get married once!
and i totally know what you mean about those marriage jokes not being funny. I have been getting a lot of those lately when people see my engagement ring. And it is not at all encouraging!

I'm glad my poems encouraged you and took you into a quiet place. It's always nice when poetry "works," you know???

I recognized Steve, and funny you should mention that Peggy had a "classy" look about her -- I thought she resembled Jackie Kennedy a little bit -- talk about classy looks. peggy is beautiful -- just like you!

I'll say a prayer or two for you as you come down the home stretch for this shower. This is for Rob's fiance, right? You'll have a great time once the work is finished and you can just relax into the fun of your loved ones and guests. YOu have always been such a gracious hostess, it'll be a wonderful afternoon.
