Still celebrating . . .

This week - on all my blogs - I've been celebrating Sam's and my 30th wedding anniversary. On my 'What? Are You Kidding Me?' blog I've put up cartoons or one-liners. Frankly it's hard to find funny material that is uplifting about the idea of marriage! I'll give you 3 examples of what I mean:
"Marriage is not a word. It is a sentence--a life sentence."
"Marriage certificate is just another word for a work permit."
"A happy marriage is a matter of giving and taking; the husband gives and the wife takes."

Hello!!?? - I so disagree with those so-called 'funnies'.

Yes, marriage can be a challenge - I mean 2 people from different families moving in together for life. That DOES sound daunting. But it can be wonderful. And, for sure, you have to work at it . . . but, well, .....I won't preach a sermon here.

On my 'Grace Notes' blog I have put up some marriage quotes I like. Here's one that I particularly like.
"For a marriage relationship to flourish, there must be intimacy. It takes an enormous amount of courage to say to your spouse, 'This is me. I'm not proud of it -- in fact, I'm a little embarrassed by it -- but this is who I am.'"

So marriage has been on my mind. . . but not just because of Sam and me. Tomorrow I'm hostessing (I think that's a word) Caroline's bridal shower here. There are seven of us actually as official hostesses, and four 'helpers'.
It should be FUN FUN FUN. Especially since I know we'll have enough food food food. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't left comments on all your marriage posts this week, but I certainly have enjoyed each one of them. Loved your wedding photo's -- I want to know who your attendants were -- your sister??? I've never seen a photo of her, but I think that beautiful girl must be her. And who is the sweet little girl?

I hope you had a "Fantastic Sam" week celebrating a big milestone in your life.

Can you believe that we actually thought we could get together more often with summer coming upon us??? No way it can happen, BUT -- when we start thinking about our fall schedules, let's try to find a little more time together, huh?

Oh, and I checked out Sam's blog about the Zero Church -- man, I'm really stoked about that idea -- just the kind of thing that gets me excited. Tell him he needs to post again - last post was in March. I want to know what's going on NOW.

i am QUITE excited about this shower tomorrow. seeing everyone that i don't normally get to see is exciting. and i so adore caroline and it will be fun having her be the center of attention.

I'm never really one to like being the center of attention, BUT you only get married once!
and i totally know what you mean about those marriage jokes not being funny. I have been getting a lot of those lately when people see my engagement ring. And it is not at all encouraging!

I'm glad my poems encouraged you and took you into a quiet place. It's always nice when poetry "works," you know???

I recognized Steve, and funny you should mention that Peggy had a "classy" look about her -- I thought she resembled Jackie Kennedy a little bit -- talk about classy looks. peggy is beautiful -- just like you!

I'll say a prayer or two for you as you come down the home stretch for this shower. This is for Rob's fiance, right? You'll have a great time once the work is finished and you can just relax into the fun of your loved ones and guests. YOu have always been such a gracious hostess, it'll be a wonderful afternoon.
