on Atheism . . .
I was rereading C. S. Lewis' THE PROBLEM OF PAIN this week and in the introduction he was talking about how - to him, in his atheist days - nature was NOT evidence of God. (Funny, I had always thought it was.) That intrigued me. Then that very day I found out that the cover article in CHRISTIANITY TODAY was about atheism.
Hmm, I thought. I remember (very well) having trouble with the idea of God. Long story short: I am now a major believer. My faith in Him has changed my life. CHANGED MY LIFE! My hymn is "I Need Thee Every Hour". . . because I do.
Anyway, I decided to dedicate this post to God.
Now this edition of CHRISTIANITY TODAY is biased, of course (toward God), but STILL I think it's worth a read. Click HERE for the main article.
There is also a list of books about the subject that you can find if you click HERE.
And I like these quotes:
"I tried atheism for a while, but my faith just wasn’t strong enough."
- Author Unknown
"Belief is a wise wager. Granted that faith cannot be proved, what harm will come to you if you gamble on its truth and it proves false? If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager , then, without hesitation, that God exists."
- Blaise Pascal, PASCAL'S WAGER
"Why is the Atheist’s main target always Jesus of Nazareth, and never Buddha, Confucius, or Mohammed? Why is the aspiring athlete’s target always the true champion and never the also-rans?"
- Author Unknown
"If man is not made for God, why is he happy only in God?"
I have a simple mind. It cannot argue with great minds. But I know this: I was blind, but now I see. Lost, but now am found.
It's a wonderful life.
P.S. That first picture - of the guy holding the sun - I just put that in for fun. Interpret it as you will.
