I like Palin as McCain's running mate.

John (Huffman) has been promoting Sarah Palin for VP pick since June 4. McCain's folks must have been reading his blog!

Hmm. . .

. . . so I'm stumped.
I could talk about Obama's great speech last night.
Or who I think will be McCain's running mate.
Or how ZeroChurch core group meeting went last night (great).
Or how this afternoon I get to go see little Caroline and baby Andrew. (Sweet)
Or how the LoneStar Antique mall is starting their Labor Day sale today - and I better sell some stuff or I just might rethink the whole antique mall booth thing.
Or how yesterday I overheard a lady being super negative and how it reminded me of the two ugly women that sat in the tea room last week from 11 am till 3 pm being horrible. And, of course, they had to pray before they ate.

Yeah. I'll 'talk' about them. I will not talk long, otherwise I will BECOME them: ugly.
They were well-groomed and well-dressed. But they were loud. I couldn't help but overhear their conversation. Part of me tried to detach from it and part of me wanted to hear every little nasty thing they had to say.
They talked about people in their church who didn't have 'servant hearts'. And about people who complained about everything. And about people who 'put on a Christian face', but were anything but Christian. About three times in their conversation they so agreed with each other that they actually high-fived each other.
As I was playing the background music, and overhearing them my jaw was dropping to the floor. I had never - in all my long life- heard such awfulness.
Of course, I've heard and seen a lot of awfulness in the name of Christ.
And it is so, well, awful.

I guess I write this because I need to. I don't want to become like them.
Even if I feel the need to vent (which I'm sure that need justified to themselves their awfulness) I don't want to be them . . . ever.

Anyway, I wished I had had the nerve to go up to them and say, "If you're going to be so negative, keep your voices down, please."

So that was what I decided to talk about today.
Any comments?

And here he is . . .

. . . on his 24th birthday.
You can click to enlarge - to see the pictures on the tree and the picture of Will on the wall.
(More pictures are below.)

Will is 24 today!

These are some random pictures I had on iPhoto of the birthday-boy- uh birthday-man. Well, the black and white photo I got off of his blog.

(Note to self: Get a better picture of Will and Bailey.)

There's a reason 'garage' and 'garbage' look alike . . .

. . . at least in my garage. Ah, but now it is looking better. The garage, that is. After much sweat but no tears, my side of the garage is at last free of last fall's leaves- among other things. It feels so good. There is still much to be done, but my side is in order!!
I had to brag.

Different note: we had our Monday night supper here - with the Huffmans and Cap and Lindsey, and Mother, and Bailey and Will. I served Archer Farms (Target's brand) Garlic and Herb Skewered Shrimp. They're in the freezer section and are super easy to prepare. Get some soon. (Well, if you're not allergic to shrimp.)
We also celebrated Will's 24 birthday early (it's Wednesday). I got an Italian Creme Cake from Market Street. Oh my. Get one soon. (Well, if you're not allergic.)

Different note: school started today for almost everybody in Texas. (If feels good to be out of school.) And I'm missing my daughter. Here is a picture of her making a quiche last month. I mean she made it from scratch -- which means the crust was NOT Pillsbury. That's my girl.

And then there she is serving it. (Oh, that makes me miss Allison!)

Life is sweet. Well, not the missing part.

Wait. Even the missing is sweet.

I also want to live in Obama's world . . .

Friday my nephew-in-law, John Huffman (pictured here with son, Andrew), posted a post titled "I Want To Live in Obama's World" on his blog that is amazing. Well, he's a great writer for sure and has even been published in some online magazines - can't remember which.
It happens that I agree with his views in this post I'm referring to, but even if YOU don't agree - you MUST read it. . . well, to see how good a writer he is. Click HERE for it. (And the post before it is good, too. It links to a great article by Peggy Noonan.)

Puffy eyes . . .

When I was putting on my eye makeup this morning I noticed my eyes were puffy. Well, not my eyes exactly (imagine that), but the skin around my eyes. It always happens when I come to Oklahoma City for board meeting. No, it's not Oklahoma wind, or the water, not anything but my lack of control when we go out to eat the third Thursday night of every month. We either go to Abuelo's or to Ted's Escondido's Mexican Restaurant in Edmond.
Maybe there's a patch for overeating?

Obviously there's not much happening. I just had to blog something. (Hmm. Is there a blog patch out there?)

Oh, I forgot to say: it IS an exciting board meeting - 2 new Carmacks are around - Mac Carmack (17 days old) and Caroline Carmack (13 days as Rob's wife)!!!

Here's another picture I like . . .
(Don't forget: Click to enlarge.)
The day is winding down . . . and so am I.
Here is a sweet picture I want to share . . .

Calming down . . .

Lately I've been in the rest mode. That doesn't mean that I've just been sitting around doing nothing (though I have some). It means I've been trying to do stuff in a more relaxed mode.

I tend to be Type A.
I'm trying to calm down and be Type B.

I'm liking the challenge.

Here's my picture for the day - because I do plan on sitting and doing nothing this afternoon - and notice this: I'm not apologizing for it.

Are you wondering when the other shoe will drop? (ha)

Just 2 things . . . oh, 3 . . . no, 4 . . .

1. Our ZeroChurch practice service went pretty well. We had some rough spots with a microphone problem, then a guitar cord-thing problem. The powerpoint stuff went well, though. And I was pretty pleased with my little mini-concert at the first (and am so glad it's over). We counted 38 people (which included children) there. Not bad since there was no advertisement, just an e-mail out to BV folks.
All in all we were pleased. (Thank you for your prayers.)
(Later: I added these pictures that Lee took. Thanks, Lee.)

2. I like to read TIME magazine online. Every weekend they post cartoons of the week. Usually they're pretty good but I don't post them on my joke blog - for whatever reason. Well, this week I so liked three of them that for today I posted those three on my joke blog. Click HERE to see them. (I know you want to.)

3. Laura leaves tomorrow night to go back to school. I will miss her so. Ah, but I can watch the video she left on her blog yesterday. I just love it. Click HERE for it.

4. And finally here's a picture of Will and Bailey playing with little Caroline a few weeks ago. I put this up because it's my way of saying: they're back together . . . and will probably play with little Caroline again tomorrow night!
(click the pictures to make them bigger)

A lot . . .

. . . has happened in the last 2 days.

- Bigfoot's body was found. Well, there was a press conference to that effect. Surely the 'proof' will be coming shortly. Click HERE to read more about it. (I know you're interested.)

- Bill Kristol, founder and editor of the political magazine THE WEEKLY STANDARD, said that Colin Powell is going to endorse Obama at the Democratic Convention in Denver. Well, Kristol said that a day or two ago (though not reported anywhere that I saw except on Then Powell denied it. I hope the denying part is true. (Frankly I think it WOULD be exciting to have a black president who is very charismatic - but what with the Russia/Georgia situation- and other stuff going on in the world - I want McCain as my president. (I know, you thought I was for Huckabee... )

-Michael Phelps just won his 7th gold medal in China. Wow. Oh, somewhere I heard that he consumes something like 9,000 calories a day. That's another 'Wow'.
Hmm. I hope he's a well adjusted person - sometimes people who are perfect at stuff aren't well adjusted in overall life.

So I don't have a lot of PERSONAL stuff going on. Well, not a lot of my OWN personal stuff. . . but there are things going on.
Ah, but no showers, or weddings, or precious babies being born anytime soon. . . that I know of anyway.
Oh, we DO have the ZeroChurch practice service tomorrow at 5 - but I'm not IN CHARGE of the whole thing - so I will just relax and enjoy it.
Thank goodness.

Manicure/pedicure . . . and some chocolate cake!

Thanks to John and Elizabeth - I indulged in some me time yesterday. And get this, the Vietnamese gentleman who did both the manicure and the pedicure was named Lewis!! Of course I had to tell him about little Lewis, my new nephew from Vietnam. We had quite a talk about that. Fun.

So today I'm not playing in the tea room. Just doin' much needed stuff around the house.

Oh, I found a site that I really like. It's for 'foodies', of which I am (I recently discovered). It's Click HERE for it. (Or, of course, go to
Here's a sample picture. If you're like me I just want to take a fork and partake. . . and I'm not usually a chocolate lover - like most women in the galaxy.

The party was fun!

. . . and Laura's wish will come true . . .
. . . as she opens the presents . . .

. . . while John and Andrew are getting kind of sleepy . . .
. . . and little Caroline and Will are practicing their duet (I don't know when the recital is yet.) . . .

Oh, and did you know that ever since Laura worked at the Farm she's been a real 'tree hugger'? See? . . .

A few more wedding pics . . .

(You can click to enlarge.)

(Where's Sam? He did a masterful job at officiating, but his wife didn't get a picture - sigh.)

It was all WONDERFUL.

More later. . . hafta sleep.

Fast trip. . .

. . . to Oklahoma yesterday.
On a whim Laura and I went to Edmond, Oklahoma to check out Mac Carmack. We knew he and his mom couldn't come to the wedding this weekend and we HAD to see him before he got any bigger, so we went.
Here are 2 pictures.
Can you believe I didn't take one of him and his mom, Lorie? Well, she was asleep when we got there and then we got back from getting some food for them she was awake but I had left my camera in the car.
[If you know her you won't be surprised when I say that she was even gorgeous after having just given birth 2 days prior!]

We have a new nephew! ...
Here is Steve and Lorie's new son! He was born yesterday (August 5) at 12:29 pm. His name: MacArthur Allen. (He goes by Mac.) He was 6 lbs, 12 oz, and 20 inches long. He's a healthy boy! . . . and his mom is doing well. Hopefully resting.

Isn't he adorable?
I can't wait to meet him!
His big brother is getting married this Saturday - so he's already got a lot going on in his young life.

Welcome, Mac!!

Can you believe this heat?!?

Now that I can get pictures posted again I will put up four that make me feel a little cooler . . .

'Internal error' . . .

I just posted a post but decided to delete it. It needed some pictures. . . and I have the pictures . . . I just can't upload them because of an 'internal error'.
. . . but I want you to know that I'm still thinking about you out there in 'blog-land'.
Continue to enjoy the sweet picture of little Andrew (in the previous post), okay?
Until next time . . . . . . . . .

Andrew Reagan Huffman. (He goes by Andrew.)

His mother and big sister . . .

His dad on the phone in the corner. Wouldn't you know this is the only picture I have of him from yesterday. [Is that Caroline with something on her head? She must have been wanting some attention!] (click on picture to see it bigger)

His 'Mimi' (John's mother, Susan) holding him with 'Coco' (John's grandmother, Alice) look on . . .

His Uncle Cap with his big sister, Caroline - oh, and the sweet nurse . . .

His great aunt (me) holding him . . .

Friday, August 1, 2008

. . . was born around 1:30 pm - and weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces.

I'm in the Huffmans' apartment - as soon as the maids are finished I'll go to the hospital (Baylor Grapevine).

*Andrew was my dear dad's name. It makes me cry thinking they named him after Daddy.

I can't wait to see him.

Labor . . .

Elizabeth is in it! (Pray for her.)

And I'm at her apartment waiting for the Cottage Care maid service to come and do some labor. I certainly didn't want to do it- but I wanted to give her a clean apartment. (Somethings are so worth the money.)
[added a little later: I just reread this and thought it sounded as if I thought the Huffmans' apartment was dirty. NO. Elizabeth keeps it really clean and neat - even with a 19 month-old. Just lately - with her condition and trying to keep her from going into labor before or during John's bar exam, she hasn't done any major cleaning. (His bar exam went well, by the way.) Probably when Cottage Care gets here (if they ever do!!!) they'll think, 'Shoot, this apartment doesn't need cleaning.' - But I won't let them leave.]

Different note: Laura is on her way home. She's had quite a summer at the World Hunger Relief Farm north of Waco. She's milked goats, gotten honey from bees, harvested lots of vegetables, cooked for lots of people, and the list goes on. Now she'll be home 'in the city' for a couple of weeks. . . with air conditioning, and microwave pizza. Then she'll go be a senior at Baylor University. (I'm not ready for this. She'll be 22 in 10 days. I'm so not ready.) (--It's all about me- it IS my blog.)

Oh, early this morning in the hospital John divulged the name they've picked for the baby boy: Carl Elizabeth.
His mother, grandmother and I looked at each other, and then back at him and Elizabeth, trying to be supportive.
Then he said, 'just kidding'.
We all went: Whew!

Just the Two of Us

... for Thanksgiving. We've been married 42 years - and that is how long we have NEVER been away from some of our family members for Tha...
