For today . . .

Last night at Monday night supper we celebrated Bailey's birthday-- but I won't put the pictures up until THE day - Thursday - when she turns 21!

So today we're officially starting our vacation! Well, it's a 'staycation' since we're staying here --and working in the yard. We'll eat out every night to reward ourselves for working. I can definitely handle that part. My waistline not so much. That reminds me of a cartoon I saw recently...

I thought that was so funny - but I know, we SHOULD be kind to our bodies...

Yesterday we started the eating out week by going to Red Lobster for lunch and there he was: Alex Bargsley! He wasn't waiting our table, but nearby. What a thrill. Here he is as he stopped by our table...

Have a great day.

Texas Country Reporter...

I've rediscovered a gem of a program that is now part of my TiVo schedule. (And hopefully it will show the rerun about the World Hunger Relief Farm that I missed last fall.) Anyway, this is a delightful show and every time I watch I think, 'I should watch this more often. This is good for my soul.'

That's it for today.

Donuts for breakfast!

I braved the cold weather this morning and went and got them. I was surprised there was a line at the little donut shop. But everybody was happy. Well, because the two Asian ladies waiting on everybody were so happy.

I hadn't been to a donut shop in a long time, but when I found out my cousin really likes donuts I thought, by golly, on her last morning here we're going to have some!
And, by golly, I'm going to blog about it.

(Feeling perky today!)

Can't think of a title for this post...

This has been in interesting week. (Understatement)
We've had company - and it has not been for the sole purpose of just getting together. It has been for -how do you say- providing a safe place for one who is at a crossroads in life.
I won't go into detail.
Suffice it to say, it has been an interesting week.

This morning I was reminded of a super simple prayer that ALWAYS helps me when I don't know what or how to pray. I shared this with my cousin and I will share it with you...

All I know of me
I give to all I know of You.
That's all I know to do.

When I pray this I open up the palms of my hands - a kind of tactile gesture that helps.

And God is so good. (Right now there are no words to explain that.
And I won't try to convince you of His goodness here - or even His existence. (I know some of you are not convinced. Oh, would that I could just zap you with some faith. Hmm. That's another post someday.- when I will try to zap you ... as if I could.))

I ramble.

Anyway, I'm thinking I will try and direct some thoughts to the Psalms... especially Ps. 32 and Ps. 51.

[This post is not one of my perky posts. Well, it's a pensive morning.)

I just wanted to write about where I am today - and how close I'm feeling to God.

I'm so glad I have a Savior.

And I'm glad my cousin is here... but she will leave tomorrow. Pray for her.

...you just
have to
stop the world
and get off.

Yesterday I did.

I stopped everything
and took care of myself.

It was just a day.

But oh what a difference a day makes.

Another fun Monday night...

...starting out with my favorite picture of the night...
Now here's Cousin Margaret with Elizabeth, Caroline and Andrew...And here's Bailey, Will and Andrew...
And Uncle Warren is down there at the end of the table...

A fun evening was had by all... but now I'm taking the day off in bed. Allergies or a cold have made me sickish with major dizziness so I've cancelled playing at the tea room and am letting my cousin fend (is that the right word?) for herself. (Uncle Warren is staying at Mother's.) How's that for being the hostess with the mostest?

'Course sick or not, I had to blog, right?

That means she'll be close! Hooray to that!!!

That's all for now.
And that's enough!!!

This weather has been wonderful...

So what
do I write
Well, whatever I write
I think I will
just write
a few

That's how
Caroline Carmack
does it
and it looks
so artsy.

is the
of flattery.)

Well, the news
this morning:
company is coming!
My uncle and cousin
are flying in
from Tennessee
and Alabama
for the week.
It should be
a good visit.

Did you notice
the picture on
the left on
this blog?
I just love
that picture
that girl.
That's why I
put it up.

You can't
at that
not smile.

We got it in the mail . . .

. . . another one.
I think this one makes seven.
Here's an older one...

Yes. Every semester Laura has been at Baylor we've received one of these in the mail.

I'm so honored to be the mother of this girl...
I'm proud of you, Laura-Laura.
(Clearly you take after your father.)

I anticipate pinching lots of people today.

If you are anywhere near to me you better be wearing green.

AND I will play "My Wild Irish Rose" and "O Danny Boy" (among others) over and over today.

Did you know that St. Patrick was NOT Irish, but Scottish!! He was a missionary to Ireland. AND he was not an 'official' saint.

Different note: last night was a FUN Monday night supper. We celebrated John H.'s birthday and Caroline C.'s birthday. I'll post pictures soooooon!

If you want to see and hear some creative 'geniusness' you should go to two sites. You will be astounded.

This young man is amazing. He has a music MySpace -- click HERE for that. The song "the selfish song" is fantastic, as are the others. (He plays all the instruments.)

He has a website that has his art work AND some of his songs. They are incredible. Click HERE for that.

He also has a blog HERE that you can leave a comment on - which I'm going to do right this minute.

[If you don't have the time to give all the songs a listen, just listen to one or two - or parts of some. . . . maybe while you're putting on makeup, going through your mail or whatever. It will be worth your time.]

Doodling . . .

Some time ago I read an article in Christianity Today about a book by Sybil MacBeth called PRAYING IN COLOR: DRAWING A NEW PATH TO GOD. The article, called "Doodling With Devotion", suggests you might write a name of a person you want to pray for on a page, then draw around it, like doodling, and then color it, and draw some more, all the while you're praying for that person. I thought that sounded very interesting, so I started doing it! (Well, my version of it.)

I also began using doodling for help in Scripture memory.

I love it.

I took a few pictures last fall - so as to share on my blog. Finally I'm sharing.

Here they are. (Don't be judgmental. It's just doodling.)(You can click on each picture to make it bigger, if you want to.)

Anyway, I'm finding that doing this is very good for my soul.

I just brought to board meeting my one dollar tips that I've accumulated from my piano playing tip jar for the last two and a half years. The five, ten, and twenty dollar tips I would just put in my billfold and spend them on stuff, mainly necessities. The one dollars would go to a box in my closet. Until today.
I brought them to the bank, to let them be counted. I thought they would add up to maybe $600. Surprise-surprise: over $1300!!!

I just had to tell you that. I'm so excited.

All those years of piano lessons are paying off!!

P.S. I DO report my tips to the IRS - just so you know. (I count all the tips (all denominations) every day I play and record them - after counting them I would just put the onesies in the box. Anyway, I was not appreciating the onesies enough!! They do add up!!)

Changes . . .

I saw this new blog background and just had to have it. . . for daylight savings time (thought I'd celebrate).
In the process I decided to be who I am. No more mmjw for me. It's just a random decision to which I'm entitled. (That 'Assertiveness Training' is working!)
I don't want to say much here because I still want you to see that precious picture of Caroline when you click on my blog. And then Andrew. Precious!!!! (Oh rats, you'll have to scroll down to the previous post to see them. Do it!!!)

I'm wide awake . . .

Sam is sleeping.
Bless his heart.

Me, I'm thinking of how thankful I am that we did Zero Church. It was a wonderful ride, however short.

We had our last core group meeting tonight.
Thirteen were here.
Precious people.
The meeting was good.

Someday we'll do another project that will seek to draw folks to God. ('Course, thankfully, He draws them to Himself.)
Folks that know nothing about Him . . . except that they know they need Him.

Well, everyone needs Him.

I dare anyone to look through history -and the world - and life - and find that folks don't need God. The God of the Bible.

Everyone needs Him.

I'm so glad I found Him.

Or He found me.

Oh yes.

OH YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Today . . .

is John and Elizabeth's wedding anniversary!!

It's also National Pound Cake Day. I feel a celebration coming on.

Weird . . .

. . . not to have Zero Church Saturday night. Usually by now I'm working on music for it and getting ready for music team rehearsal on Tuesday night. Plus talking to Sam about how it's going to go, and when I'll proofread the handout, etc.

Hmm. What happened to that relieved feeling I had?

I read a little on grief years ago, and how one grieves about any kind of change or loss in his/her life. It may be a very small grief - like when a spouse calls right before dinner time saying he'll be really late and to go ahead and eat without him. Or, of course, it may be a big grief, as in a death or other kind of loss.

Hmm. I guess I'm saying I'm grieving a little right now.

Funny how just saying that helps.

Oh, but this didn't help: I got a speeding ticket today! Going 40 in a 30.
Well, at least I knew I was getting a ticket. You see, when I was about 19 I was stopped (forgive me if you've heard this before) by a highway patrolman for speeding and he told I he was going to give me a citation. I thought if he was going to give me a ticket, he would have said "ticket". Whew. I was relieved. He was just 'citing' that I was speeding. I began thanking him profusely (I mean PROFUSELY)(I'm not making this up) and then he gave me the 'citation' and went back to his patrol car and I drove off. My friend, Diane, said, "Nancy, do you realize that you just got a ticket?" I forget what I said, but embarrassment was what I felt. No wonder that patrolman looked confused when as he handed me the 'citation' I kept thanking him!

I just had to tell that story on myself.
Telling it lifted MY spirits!

Everything changes....

... and Zero Church does, too.

For now we're suspending the services. (Yes, that's right.) I just wrote a long explanation about it - and then promptly deleted it. (Too many needless words. - Surely I don't have a problem with too many needless words? -- ha.) Anyway, click HERE to read Sam's blog post about it.

The future does look bright - just different.

And all is well.
God IS great!!
