Yesterday afternoon...

... Laura and I babysat for Caroline and Andrew. Then Laura had to leave and Mother came to babysit. After Laura left, Caroline told me that Laura went home because she (Laura) had to go take her nap!

Here are some pics...

My mother with her sweet little great grandchildren...

Another happy pic....

This next picture was actually the first picture I took of the afternoon.
Here Laura was helping feed Andrew, while his big sister was still taking her nap...

Playing with Laura...

Stopping to pose...

Caroline showed us how she could ride the tricycle all by herself!!She can really ride it fast!

It was a sweet-sweet afternoon.

[P.S. The biopsies on Laura came back looking okay! Well, nothing MORE wrong other than the 'severe ulcerative colitis'. Continue to pray that she will be on the COMPLETE mend. She starts summer school next week, so she can graduate in August, so she can go to to grad school at UNT in the fall. --- Thank you SO MUCH for your prayers!]

Tuesday night...

... was Open Mike Night at Buon Giorno!

Laura performed. And she convinced me that I wasn't too old to perform, also!
It was so fun. And I thought we both did well. (No brag, just fact.)

Here she is...
Here's Ryan watching her sing a song she wrote for him...

Here's proof that I did it, too...

Earlier that afternoon we went to sign up. Rachael went with us. Here she is with Laura.

While we were there, they were roasting the coffee beans...

It's nice that privately-owned Buon Giorno is doing so well... seeing that there are 3 Starbucks the next major street over!

Yesterday ...

... was a good day.

If my dad had been alive he would have put the American flag out.
Instead Ryan and Laura decorated the holiday tree...
Here they're relaxing and practicing to perform at open mike night tonight at Buon Giorno in Grapevine...
We had a fun- but very different group- for Monday night supper last night. Baylor was well represented!
From left, Sam, Linh, Laura, Ryan, Matt, Grace, Rachael, Caroline, Rob...
After the meal, most of the group went upstairs to the 'theater' and watched CATCH ME IF YOU CAN. The remaining four - Rob, Caroline, Sam and Nancy- stayed downstairs and solved the problems of the world - and the church. Very stimulating conversation - as only Rob and Sam know how to have. Caroline and I would look at each other every so often and smile - and maybe roll our eyes.... but oh, we loved it all.

Life is good.

Pictures from Will's place....

Here's Will, waiting to show us up (literally)...
Neat pot on his front porch (I gave it to him)...
In his dining room, with Tambourine...
In his 'studio'...
In his living room with the flute he bought in Waxahachie....
His guitar art ...

Here's my grandcat,"Tambourine"....
And here's "Pretzel", the older, wiser one...
From left, Pretzel, me, Will, Tambourine...
Sam is allergic to cats, but maybe Tambourine is an exception...
I really liked this wall hanging that Bailey gave Will recently...Great, huh?

[I clearly need more pictures of Pretzel. By the way, they're both girls.]

Here's the meal...

Ryan AND Laura cooked the other night.

The cooks...
The eaters (minus Sam and me), waiting hungrily...

The food, skillet lasagna made by Ryan, delicious....
Spring Celebration Soup, made by Laura... yummy, and almost gone...

Life is good.

Big changes...

... at Echo Bible Church (Rob's church). I just went to his site and found it most interesting. Click HERE to get there.

As for Laura, Ryan and me, we're in the rest mode. Well, Ryan is cooking supper for Laura. (Obviously cooking is more restful for him than it is for me.)

Sam has had so much work to do at Bear Valley that he has had to miss Laura's move - and being there for her 'procedures'. Ah, but he is always the rock... and ready to hear me tell all about our adventures. Like today - we (L, R, and I) took a quick trip to Waco to get Laura's car and turn her loft keys in. [If you're living in Waco (PR!) I am planning a trip someday just to come see YOU ('Course, I know you're super busy- with family and all. I will call first.)]

Speaking of trips to Waco, I have a new favorite place: the Czech Stop in West. (I know, that's LOTS of people's favorite place.) I'd been there before, but today - on the way back- I indulged in a kolache and saw that they had some delicious sandwiches made with homemade bread. They looked so good, I wished I hadn't eaten lunch yet.

Obviously blogging is restful for me.

4th post of the day....

I forgot to tell you the first words the doctor said after Laura's 'procedures'. He said,
"Nothing looks unusual or worrisome." Hurray!

3rd post of day....

Laura had her 'procedures' done and is sleeping now.

The doctor said her ulcerative colitis (diagnosed 3 years ago) is responsible for her problems lately. Fortunately her colitis has not gotten worse since her last colonoscopy. He did an upper GI probe, too, and found 4 ulcers in (on) her stomach.
Biopsies are being done, but that is routine in this kind of thing. Results from those will take about a week.

Thank you for your prayers! The medicine the doctor has prescribed should put her on the mend, at least for now.

P.S. Laura doesn't mind anybody knowing about all this stuff, otherwise I would have just written the first sentence of this post and hit 'publish'.

Thanks again for your interest and your prayers.

2nd post of day...

I put a cartoon up earlier about Facebook, of which I'm having a certain disdain. Ah, but it does have its good points - like keeping in touch with people - and finding out what their doing, thinking, etc.

Anyway, that cartoon was a diversion.

My mind is really on my sweet daughter.
If you're reading this, PRAY FOR HER. She is having some stuff done today - to find out what is wrong and to make her better.
She has been through the mill... with finals, leaving roommates, moving, and particularly this health issue- well, pray that she will be on the mend.

She is so dear. It's amazing how much I love her.
And her father, and her brother, and her grandmother, and her cousins, and her boyfriend, and all you wonderful people out there.

Thank you for praying.

I'll keep you posted.

For today . . .

Totally...

...zonked... totally...
but it feels good to have Laura's loft cleared out, and her home for a few days. Then she'll go back to Waco in 2 weeks and live in a furnished apartment (thanks to her uncle) for a month of summer school.

I don't think I've ever been so in favor of furnished apartments as I am this minute.

And right this very minute I'm in favor of simplifying life period.

And doing nothing...
...which I'm doing... while still in my pajamas.

Movin' out...

Laura has spent 3 years in her loft with her lofties.

Here are Claire, Laura, Elise and Rachael...Tinsley was somewhere else. But there were also Julia, Molly, and maybe someone else I'm forgetting, who lived there at one time.
Anyway, memories will be what they have of that loft. Now it's time to move on.

Here's a picture I like of Laura with some of the girls' plants and Elise's pottery...
And here's some more pottery I like that Elise made...
Anyway, I'm volunteering our house for loftie reunions!!

Some quotes I like...

Music is a higher revelation than philosophy.
- Ludwig von Beethoven

Music can measure how broad our horizons are. My mind wants to see infinity.
- Stevie Wonder

A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.

I do believe she's musical....

I've had these pictures for a little while. The first one was taken a few weeks ago - amidst the hoopla of Susan Boyle from "Britain's Got Talent" fame. At the Monday night supper after she became famous we watched her on YouTube. Little Caroline sat there mesmerized. I mean, she watched Ms Boyle for as long as it took for her to sing that beautiful song. I noticed it, as did Caroline's mother, Elizabeth.

Then a few weeks later Caroline was in the living room pounding (though gently) on the piano singing "If You're Happy And You Know it". I thought, that little girl has a future in music!!!!
What a thrill.
Her Grandma Peggy would be so proud.

Here are the pics:
Ryan holding the mesmerized Caroline listening to Susan Boyle...

Caroline accompanying herself to "If You're Happy and You Know it"...

How wonderful is that?!

Mother's Day pics!

I couldn't be with my kiddos Sunday - but there were good reasons for that. I was, though, lavished with cards and gifts and text messages and phone calls from them. THANK YOU, Will and Laura!! And I got a beautiful card from my mother. THANK YOU, Mother!

Here are the 2 dozen roses from my Sam...

The outside of the card...
The inside...

This is my favorite part of the card...

At around 4:30 that day we went over to the Huffmans for a cookout. It was YUM and FUN! Unfortunately I did not get a picture of John cooking all the ribs and hamburgers and hot dogs. He is a master at that. Oh my yes.

Here are the pictures in the order they were taken:

Sara Elizabeth and I. We FINALLY got to meet!!

Here are Elizabeth and Andrew with Jennifer and Lauren, and little Heidi - the tiny 8 week old puppy at Jennifer's feet.

Here's Caroline coloring with her Uncle Mark...

Here's Sara with Elizabeth and Andrew...

Here are the two great grandmothers with Andrew. As they pointed out, the whole event couldn't have happened if it were not for them!

Here is John's little nephew, Asher, on the right. The little girl on the left is the daughter of a friend of the Huffmans. I thought they looked so cute together!

What a fun day.

I woke up . . .

. . . thinking I definitely should have stayed in Waco with Laura (see previous post). Then I went to her blog and saw that she was doing okay (Hurray!). . . and looking a little different! (Click HERE to see.)

Have a great day.

Mother first . . .

. . . that's what I am. Today I was reminded of it.

Sam and I got up and got ready to head to Oklahoma for our monthly meetings. As we were getting ready to get in the car the phone rang. Sweet daughter. Feeling really bad. So bad we had her immediately go to the E R. She lives in Waco so that meant we couldn't take her. Dear Claire, one of her 'lofties', did. Thank you, Claire!

There was no way I was going north to Oklahoma. And Sam found out he's a father first - and he wasn't going north either.

Long story short: Laura was given an IV so as not to be dehydrated - and the tests came back negative - which is positive! We took her back to her loft, got her some bland food from H.E.B., and her boyfriend (a nursing student) was on his way. So we got in our car and headed north. Now we're in OK City - and settled in for the night. . . but my heart and mind are still in Waco and I'm thinking I should have stayed there.
Ah, but I'm used to second-guessing myself, so I'll be okay. And I'm praying precious Laura will be more than okay - in every way.
I love her more than I can say.

Different note: I have pictures to post - but will do that next time.

Sunday, May 10, 2009

I'm not his mother . . .

. . . but my Sweetie Sam gave me 2 dozen roses for Mother's Day and a beautiful card that sings "Some Kind of Wonderful"!!!!!

It's a great day!!!!!

Saturday morning...

... I woke up really early for some reason. Evidently my brain didn't register that it is SATURDAY, FOR GOODNESS' SAKE!

Oh well, it's given me time to sit here and do 'my thing'. That makes me think of this cartoon someone drew of me . . .

Different note: you may not have visited 2 blogs in a while - since the bloggees don't post very often... but when they do.... it is GOOD:

Last week Rob finally posted another great 'article'. It would be worth your time to read. I thought the first part was really funny- and the rest was serious and so good (Well, the funny part was so good, too.) Click HERE for it.

And last night Will posted something very interesting. He posted recently, too, but I'm thinking no one read it, or saw the picture of Pretzel, because his posts are so infrequent- why bother to go to his blog? Well, I bother - and I'm glad I do (did). Last night he put up a link that I found amazing. It's under his new post titled "This is cool." Click HERE for it.

Different note: yesterday Sam, Will, Bailey Jo and I went and saw the new STAR TREK movie. It was so good! Even if you're not a 'trekkie' (which I'm not) I think you will like it.
Well, actually, in my opinion, it's not as good as THE SOUND OF MUSIC. But then....

Happy Mother's Day!

Yesterday ...

... I went to Plano and sang a song for a preschool graduation/end-of-year program at a preschool where my cousin, Carol McElhany Smith, works. I've sung it before there, and they asked me back.

This is the first time I've ever posted words to one of my songs on my blog, but since Sunday is Mother's Day - and since I know some young mothers - well, I thought the words might be good for you to read. I like them (obviously).

Here are the song's lyrics:
Mommy’s Prayer
by Nancy Carmack

1. I hear my children laugh and play.
I see their room in disarray.
I wonder if I’ll ever have
Some time for me some day.
And then I think, it will be soon
When this becomes a very quiet room.
These days won’t last, these days will pass,
For little children grow up way too fast.

(chorus)
All I have is now, all I have is here.
Lord, You've given me this precious time
These little lives to rear.
Take me, make me a reflection of your grace,
That when my little children look up into mommy’s face,
They'll see You there.
That is my prayer, Lord,
That they will see Jesus there.

2. I mend their wounds. I wipe their tears.
I try and calm their night time fears.
But there are times I want to shout,
There are times I get so put out.
And then I think, it won’t be long
Till they grow up and they are gone.
These days won’t last, these days will pass,
For little children grow up way too fast.*

Have a great Mother's Day!

[P.S. I'm rethinking doing Facebook. I mean, I've lived all my life without it, do I need it? Hmm. Do I want it? I'm not so sure..... ]

More Whimsy from LoneStar Antiques...

Here are Delta and Ruby working in their booth. Actually they have two booths... and they are two fun ladies!

Here are Erin and Nadir folding napkins in the tea room. They have to be folded by someone, why not by fun people?

Trish and I (she's on the right) are often mistaken for each other . . . which is a compliment to me!

I thought the message on this t-shirt in Jennifer's booth was funny...

This is a mug in my booth. I like its message ...

And here are some random booths I like (you can click to make larger)....

We have a sale going on through the end of his month.
(Just so you know.)
