Monday night...

That's Sawyer with his sweet mommy, Caroline.

This next picture is Sawyer in a different outfit... with his-kind-of-cousin-in-law- once-removed-but-not-related, Lindsey... but they're getting along as if she were his favorite aunt!...
Notice how he's looking at her. :)

And here are some of the guys talking guy-stuff...

And finally, the birthday girl gets her Italian cream cake!Happy Birthday, Bailey!!

-----
Can you believe that little Caroline and Andrew WERE there Monday night?
(Obviously I didn't take enough pictures!!!!)

I have pictures to post...

...and things to say here....

...but I'm so tired that I just want to say that I'm so tired.

Mother will read this and think (and say) the same thing.

----
She and I are in the throes of moving.

We're packing, but before we pack each and every item, she has to decide where each item goes: to her new place, to the estate sale, to the booth at Lone Star, to my place, or to the trash heap.
Or "Will so-and-so want this?"

This is moving like no other.
(Well, I don't think.)

I'm just hoping and praying she stays healthy through the move..... then she will enjoy the fruits of her labor.

Right, Mother?

---
(The following was written just a few minutes later.)
I'm feeling more rested suddenly!
I think writing that I was tired energized me.
Seriously.
Ah, the power of words written!!!

And read Deanna's comment (hit the 'comments' button)... it is wonderful...
(Oh and leave a comment, too. I LOVE COMMENTS.)

Triple Tweet!!

I almost didn't play yesterday in the tea room.... but was so glad I did!

I watched some ladies put out some pretty Easter stuff for a party...

THEN I found out the party was honoring some friends of ours!
Randy Miller and his wife from Northwood Church were special guests! (Randy, of course, had to 'pose' for my picture...)

I thought the decorations were darling....

I asked if the ladies made them. They said, 'No, we got them at JO ANN'S'
Wow. I told them I was going to go buy some and they said, "Nope, you can't do it. We bought them all."

Surely they did NOT go to the JO ANN'S in Grapevine.

[Oops. I better get there before YOU do.]

-----

Today is Palm Sunday. Next week, Easter.

It's an exciting time for Christians.

I hope we (I) don't let its significance go understated.

My Marvelous Mother Margaret is Making the Move...

... mmmmmm...

She's moving to a wonderful retirement community in Bedford.
She will be as close to me as she is now.... and as close to Elizabeth, too.... just in a different direction.

I'm so excited for her.
In fact, I wish it were me (I).
I mean, no yard to take of, no meals to cook, people to go to Walmart with.... and everywhere else with, for that matter!

(Sam and I are going to check in as soon as we can!!)

Oh and it is NOT assisted living. It is INDEPENDENT LIVING.

I just seems awesome.

-----
Elizabeth, Caroline and Andrew came to help her pack today...

... Well, Caroline and Andrew didn't actually pack..... but they were being their best selves. ... with the TV babysitter...That show was really cute, which made it kind of hard for me to help with the packing in the other room.

....I had to tear myself away....
... but I did...
-----

We packed some really precious things to take to Mother's new apartment.

Like this....This was made by my dear (late) twin sister (Elizabeth's mom - and Cap's, too) for my mom years ago. Click the picture to make it larger, and you'll see lots of Mother's interests (notice the popcorn!).

Here's another treasure (click to enlarge)...Peggy (my twin) started this counted cross stitch for Mother in 1988, and was so wanting to finish it. Her health just got so bad that she couldn't, so I finished it... hence the signing "Peggy AND Nancy"... (I had to get credit, you know.)
(Doing counted cross stitch is not for the faint of heart.)
----

Anyway, come April 5th my mother will be moved!! I will stay a few nights with her at Parkwood at first... and eat in the dining room with her.... and check out her new friends.

Oh, and they have a piano in Parkwood's dining room..... so I just might have to play!
(Sounds like a plan!)

(Oh, a sweet family is buying Mother's house.)

Life is good.

Let them eat cake...

...and they did...

The caterer had them (and me) sample some wedding cakes!!!
The flavors were: white, chocolate, champagne, caramel, strawberry, amaretto (I think), and I can't remember what else. They were all delicious. I won't tell you what they picked... because, well, that's not my place in life....

I just blog and show pictures.

--------

On a completely, totally, absolutely different note, Shiloh has been giving us gifts of late. He reminds me of cats that present dead birds on doorsteps.
This is a dog, though, and they aren't birds he's presenting... they're dead squirrels. Two so far, in as many days.

So much for thinking he was getting more human everyday.
--------
There's more stuff to tell, but I've got places to go, people to see, and things to do. (Thank goodness.)

You need to always have your camera ready...

You never know when you're going to see something you've never seen before.
(Have YOU ever seen a toaster car before?)

Oh, and there was this vehicle with this message...That brought me a chuckle.

This next picture may not bring you a chuckle, but it may cause your jaw to drop...I found that to be surprising... (Did you notice it said DFW AIRPORT?! (Not just DFW.))
Whoa.
-------

On a different - and more important - note: Laura is getting married June 5th -- not July 17th!!! Yes. Things DO change. Nothing IS set in stone, well, until it IS actually SET in stone.

(The date change has to do with honeymoons and work schedules - and stuff like that.)

And, though it will not work for some, the new date does work for all the principal characters: bride, groom, preacher, flower girl, bridesmaids, groomsmen, caterer, photographer, church, and parents of the bride and groom.

It does mean 'crunch time' is here.... but, hey... bring it on!!!!
(Seriously, we're excited.)

Fess Parker died this week...

...so I played "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" in the tea room.

My old friend Mark Mills suggested I do that... so I did.

[Just playing that tune brought back memories.
(Thanks, Mark, I enjoyed that.)]

------

You know it's sad when icons die.

I used to not know what the word 'icon' meant. Well, not really.

I just did an Google search on the word and found it means:
1. An image; a representation.
2. A representation or picture of a sacred or sanctified Christian personage, traditionally used and venerated in the Eastern Church.

Interesting.

Really, today it means Fess Parker... as Davy Crockett... then Daniel Boone... though he had nothing to do with the Eastern Church (I don't think).

And I think Peter Graves also might be an 'icon'.

I can't think of him without hearing the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE music in my brain, can you?
(He died this week, too.)

'Course he makes me think of his brother, James Arness, perhaps a true icon.

GUNSMOKE was a favorite at our house.

Well, maybe that's because my Grandmother Ora (my mom's mom) was Chester's first cousin. (Seriously.)

That's Dennis Weaver. ... my claim to fame!

Oh, and he's dead, too.

Geez.

I think I'm getting old.

There's this . . .

If you've been looking at my blog off and on for the last several (very many) minutes then you know that I've been having one of my indecisive afternoons.

You know, the afternoons where I have a zillion things to do (away from the computer), but can't decide which I should do, so I don't do any of them ... and I obsess over trivial stuff... like ... blog backgrounds.

Well by golly, they're all so cute. I canNOT decide which one to pick.
And it's time.
The Irish theme needs to move along.

I'll stick with this one for a while, I guess.
I'm fickle, though.... so it may change soon.

Speaking of change... there are some things changing here lately in my life and in my family's life. I'll tell more about them soon... but know this: they ARE exciting.
----
Unfortunately some of my dear friends are not having exciting things happening in their lives. They're having hard, heavy stuff going on....

Like Susan Prather, whose father is going to be taken off life support this coming Monday. He has been in a very bad state for months and months. This has taken a huge toll on all of the family... and now they're facing the end. Please pray for them. (Mr. Martin just turned 70, so he's not a very old man.)

Also, Beth Lahaie's cousin (more like a sister) Linda Spencer has been in terrible physical condition. She has been in the hospital for a long time - with no diagnosis, which means no prognosis, and no helpful treatment. Please pray for her. (She is in her fifties.)

Also, continue to pray for Joel Huffman (Elizabeth's husband's brother) who is serving in Afghanistan.

I know you guys have lots more to pray for on your own... but I so appreciate your prayers for the above.

If It's St. Patrick's Day ....

...it must be Kathy's birthday!!!

'
Every year, I mean EVERY year, since junior high I've thought of my dear friend Kathy on this day.
I was really blessed to have some super friends in junior high and high school... and Kathy was one of the BEST and MOST PRECIOUS. Seriously, I can't think of a better anyone than Kathy Fennell Cranfill.

Several years ago my niece Elizabeth called excitedly and almost breathlessly, "Nancy, you'll never believe who one of my really good friends is!!!" (something like that)
"Let me guess.... No, tell me."
"Kevin Cranfill, whose mother is Kathy Fennell Cranfill!"
"What?! Are you serious?!!"
Then Elizabeth proceeds to tell me how she and Kevin were just talking and it came up somehow that Elizabeth's mother grew up in Mission and what-do-you-know so did Kevin's mom. I think then Kevin called his mom and asked, "Did you happen to know a Peggy White in Mission?" ... and then Kathy got all excited... and long story short... we got back together!!!!! We emailed some ... then quit some... now we're on Facebook together!! And we'll see each other this summer at our high school reunion!!! (I'll write more about that later.)

Anyway, Kathy, I hope you have a WONDERFUL DAY!! I read on Facebook just where you're going .... HAVE FUN!!

(And I hope you don't mind that I stole your profile picture. I really like it.)

-----
Different note: It is time to put your green shoes on!

I bought these several years ago - when DSW first opened - and always get comments on them. They're comfy AND they brighten up my closet.

Have a great day, and if you're not wearing green don't come near me.
I have a pretty mean pinch.

Not enough candles . . .

When one gets older he discovers it is harder and harder to find enough candles for his cake!
And even then he needs help blowing them out!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHN!!!!!

Yes, yesterday was niece(in-law) Caroline's birthday, and today is nephew(in-law) John's birthday.

... and tomorrow there's another one!!!!! - you'll have to wait to see just who that is... tomorrow.
----

On a different note, my mother went with me shopping yesterday... for a mother-of-the-bride dress. It was a fun mother/daughter outing... and yet sobering ... that I - me, myself, and I - was the one getting the mother-of-the-bride dress.

Whoa.

Life can be sobering....
... and exciting at the same time.

(I DID find THE dress!)

Monday, March 15, 2010

It's a special day today . . .

...the girl in the green - who's holding her nephew in the green - is having a BIRTHDAY!!
(This is the week to wear green, by the way.)
(That picture shows, from left: me; Caroline's mother, Charlsa; Caroline holding her nephew, Kohen; and Cassie, Kohen's mom ... who is due THIS WEEK to deliver Baby Judah. ... Pray for a safe and easy delivery.)

This next picture is one that I stole....
Or rather, I took the liberty to copy Caroline's Facebook profile picture, well, because it is DARLING... and I want my nonFacebook folks to see it.That's Caroline holding her sweet son, Sawyer (my great nephew).
(Isn't that beyond precious?!)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAROLINE!!

Friday, March 12, 2010

Look who came to see me today in the tea room ....

I for sure played "Sweet Caroline".

I couldn't find any music for "Sweet Elizabeth" and "Sweet Andrew".

I guess I'll have to work at writing some new songs.

Happy Things...

I've been tagged by Sara Elizabeth... to tell of things that make me happy.
(Thanks, Sara. This is fun.)

First of all, let me say that I could tell you about the serious, wonderful happinesses I've been having... like great-nephew Sawyer's birth...

And having gorgeous sunshiny days after snow and rain.

And solitude. (I LOVE solitude... but not all the time.)

But no.
I will tell of small delights...

Like this mug:(I had it on sale in my booth, but brought it home because I needed its message for myself.)

And this dog's tail wagging...

And a good dishwasher...(Well, that is no small thing.)

And people making funny faces for the camera...

And this picture from last Halloween at the Fall Festival at FBC, Grapevine...

And the red dirt of Oklahoma...

And this picture of these two having fun...

And this picture of this dancer...

And this picture of these people singing and 'playing'...

And Dr. Pepper (not the diet kind)...

And finally all the food at the Will White family reunion...(You knew there had to be food in here somewhere.)

Those are just a few of my 'happy things'.

I'm supposed to tag folks, some of whom don't like to be tagged.
I'll do it this way:
You're tagged to list your happy things on your blog if your name starts with any letter in the alphabet.

If you don't have a blog you can do it on Facebook... or in an email... or on a postcard...

It will make you smile.

(Thanks, Sara.)

Magnificent Major Yum...

Last night Elizabeth served a magnificent Mexican feast . . .

It was all incredibly delicious.... like this divine corn/black bean salad ...

...And this guacamole, which I think was my favorite....
Well, either that or the chicken enchiladas were my favorite- which you can see in the first picture.
Fortunately there were two pans of them. YUM.

For dessert, Elizabeth made some brownies (from scratch!) and served them with strawberries and whipped cream.
Here you can see some of the folks who enjoyed them....(I love that picture!)

Oh, I should tell you that all the food was made from scratch. Elizabeth, you outdid herself!
(Will said that 'scratch' is his favorite.)

Before the meal, Ryan and Caroline got to watch some BARNEY...

After BARNEY, Caroline showed us how she can jump from the stairs... and her brother showed us how he can now walk (safely) down the stairs...(I remember when he couldn't even turn over.)

After the meal, I went around and took some random pictures ....

Here are three graduation plaques (there's probably a different/better name for them) from A&M...
(The top is Elizabeth's, the middle is John's, and the bottom is Granddaddy Andy's.)

And finally, here's their favorite lamp...

Let's all say, "Gig 'Em, Aggies!"

Uh, that's when we're not saying "Sic 'Em, Bears!"
