... I married Sam, the man.
We met at Southcliff Baptist Church in southwest Fort Worth in August 1977. Actually we had known who each other was (were), as we both went to Baylor the same four years. So as I saw him across the sanctuary (auditorium), I told my roommate, "Oh, there's Sam what's-his-name. He went to Baylor." Erene said, "Yes, I know him. I'll introduce you." So she did.
And here we are today.
He used to wear leisure suits; I used to wear pant suits.
We were both thinner back then.
He taught me to like coffee without sugar.
I taught him ... well, I can't remember what I taught him.
(Oh, I introduced him to soft tacos.)
He is very wise, and can be very funny.
Me, I need his wisdom, and I like to laugh at his funnies.
We've lived in Texas, Georgia (well, for 3 months), Brazil, back to Texas, then Oklahoma, then Kentucky, then back to Texas.
After wanting children badly, and looking into adoption, we found out we were going to have a son! ... and then, soon after, a daughter!!! (How wonderful.)
Our life together has been amazing.
I tell all young girls to not get in a hurry to get married.
And to not settle for anyone jus' cuz' it's 'time'... and all your friends are marrying off.
Enjoy YOUR life.
Someday your Sam might come along.
('Course he won't be as good as my Sam.)
My Sam came along when I was 26 - which at the time seemed old. (Good grief.)
Prior to meeting, we each (on our own) decided we'd like to be single, well, rather than marrying any ole' body.
And then we met. ....
And now I'm smiling....
and tonight we're going out on a big date!!!
