Two of my favorite artists...

...came by and did some art work at my house last week.

Here are Caroline's bride and bridesmaids...
<

Then she added more bridesmaids...

Now I think that is remarkable.
(She just turned four years old on Dec. 28th!)

Here is her little brother's impressionistic art...
(I just love those little hands.)

Elizabeth is always so appreciative of my time with her little ones.
Look what she brought me...
... those cookies are called 'Playdough' cookies that she and the children made. There were more of them, but I ate them. (Yes, they're edible. mm)
--------
You may have noticed that 'Cupcake' won on my last poll. I voted for it... but almost voted for 'Popcorn'. (I actually thought 'Campout' would have done better.)

This poll I have up now is not as uplifting. Oh well.
The person I voted for (or against) I voted for without hesitation. I didn't even have to think about it. ... I'll tell you who I voted for when the poll is closed.

If you haven't voted yet... please do. (upper right)
--------
In closing... here's a good thought:
Be yourself.... everyone else is already taken!

Friday fun...

-----------
And here are two funnies I've received from my high school classmate Laurie (Laurentina Diaz Goudeau - isn't that a beautiful name? - Well, she's a beautiful lady, as you can see.)

As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang.
Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, 'Herman, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way
on Interstate 77. Please be careful!'
'Heck,' said Herman, 'It's not just one car.  It's hundreds of
them!'
-------------
A PLANE IS ON ITS WAY TO Chicago WHEN A BLONDE IN ECONOMY CLASS GETS UP, AND MOVES TO THE FIRST CLASS  SECTION AND SITS DOWN.

THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT WATCHES HER DO THIS, AND ASKS TO SEE HER TICKET.

SHE THEN TELLS THE BLONDE THAT SHE PAID FOR ECONOMY CLASS, AND THAT SHE WILL HAVE TO SIT IN THE BACK.

THE BLONDE REPLIES, "I'M BLONDE, I'M BEAUTIFUL, I'M GOING TO CHICAGO   AND I'M STAYING RIGHT HERE."

THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT GOES INTO THE COCKPIT AND TELLS THE PILOT AND THE CO-PILOT THAT THERE IS A BLONDE BIMBO SITTING IN FIRST CLASS, THAT BELONGS IN ECONOMY, AND WON'T MOVE BACK TO HER SEAT.

THE CO-PILOT GOES BACK TO THE BLONDE AND TRIES TO EXPLAIN THAT BECAUSE SHE ONLY PAID FOR ECONOMY SHE WILL HAVE TO LEAVE AND RETURN TO HER SEAT.

THE BLONDE REPLIES, "I'M BLONDE, I'M BEAUTIFUL, I'M  GOING TO CHICAGO AND I'M STAYING RIGHT HERE."

THE CO-PILOT TELLS THE PILOT THAT HE PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE THE POLICE WAITING WHEN THEY LAND TO ARREST  THIS BLONDE WOMAN, WHO WON'T LISTEN TO REASON.

THE PILOT SAYS, "YOU SAY SHE IS A BLONDE? I'LL HANDLE THIS, I'M MARRIED TO A BLONDE. I SPEAK BLONDE."

HE GOES BACK TO THE BLONDE AND WHISPERS IN HER EAR,  AND SHE SAYS, "OH, I'M SORRY." AND GETS UP AND GOES  BACK TO HER SEAT IN ECONOMY.

THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT AND CO-PILOT ARE AMAZED AND  ASKED HIM WHAT HE SAID TO MAKE HER MOVE WITHOUT ANY FUSS.

"I TOLD HER, FIRST CLASS ISN'T GOING TO CHICAGO ".
------------
I'll share more of her funnies and delights later.

(Thanks, Laurie!)

From where I sit...

... I can see the new display of Blue Willow plates on the wall in the Simplicities' Tea Room at the LoneStar Antique Mall.
Jennifer said they thought about taking them all the way to the ceiling... which would require a lot of plates ... and a lot of work.
Ah, but I like them the way they are.

The other day I saw an interesting couple come in. I sneaked a picture of them...
Susie is taking their order. (It's a bad picture, I know. I was zooming in on my iPhone.) Can you see the lady with the purple-spiked hair? When I first saw her I thought she was a young lady. But no. When she turned around I could see she was maybe in her sixties, and that man is her husband (well, I think).
At first I thought she was strange. Her hair and her clothes were so weird for a person of that age. But she was very nice to me. ... and, well, made me get out of my frumpy ways and applaud (well, not literally) her for her 'look'.

Yeah.
Why not?

Why not branch out a bit?

I may not get my hair purple, but, hmm... I may get (a little) daring.

I'll keep you posted.
------
Well, Cupcake is winning in my latest poll.
That poll shows you that though I may not (presently) have purple hair, I CAN make a poll that's a little (just a tad) outside the box.
------
In closing, here's a quote by William Barclay that I've used before ... and love...
The Christian is a person of joy...A gloomy Christian is a contradiction of terms, and nothing in all religious history has done Christianity more harm than its connection with black clothes and long faces.
Isn't that good?

The next thing...

Are you like me?
Are you always thinking about the 'next thing'?

Even in the little things.

Like when I'm getting ready for the day...
I'm not thinking about the getting ready part.
I want to do it as fast as I can so I can get on to the next thing... like running that errand, finally doing that chore, making that phone call, finishing that project.

I won't be satisfied until I get to that 'next thing'.

And then during THAT thing I'm thinking about the NEXT thing.

Well, phooey on that.
For today, when I'm driving to the antique mall, I'm not going to be thinking about getting there. I'm going to be thinking about the actual driving there. The stop lights. The people in the car behind me.
I'm even going to look at and think about the texture of my dashboard in the sunlight. ('Course it will need dusting.)

Ha. Even now, I'm thinking about the 'next thing'.
Phooey. I'm going to think - I AM thinking - about my fingers on this keyboard typing this very minute. And how blessed I am that I have the time and ability to type this stuff. And how Mr. Suter's typing class in Mission High School was one of the best classes I've ever taken. It means I don't have to 'hunt and peck' when I'm typing.
And I'm thinking about how my feet are snuggled up under the covers now.... with my knees are bent so my laptop can be on my lap.

And I'm thinking how blessed I am that I have the time and leisure to sit here doing this.
And I can do it without guilt.

I haven't completely gotten ready for the day yet, but I'm looking forward to the experience of putting my makeup on in a few minutes. (Oh, that's the 'next thing' again.)

As you can tell, I'm in a good mood.

I spent the night with my mom. We went to see CAMELOT at the Artisan Center Theater last night. Before that, from 4 till 5, I played some background music for her retirement center's Sips and Snacks time. That was fun.

So I'm feeling good.

Oh, I've put up another random poll (totally random).
(I was surprised that Belle won on the puppy name--- but that's sweet, and did seem to fit her sweet picture. (I voted for Damsel.))

In closing, here are two of my favorite quotes from C.S. Lewis:
"I gave in, and admitted that God was God, and knelt and prayed: perhaps, that night, the most dejected and reluctant convert in all England."

"Reality, in fact, is usually something you could not have guessed. That is one of the reasons I believe Christianity. It is a religion you could not have guessed."

For today...

...here are some mommy and baby pictures I recently took from my iPhone...

------
And then there's this picture I took last week...
When I saw that sign I got sad... that young mothers need to work to make money...
... and have to watch their kids grow online.

Well, at least there's that.

(And don't email me... I know that lots of mothers need to work - and thank heavens for good daycares!)

Mayberry won...

In my last poll, THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW won, as to what TV world would you rather live in. Not surprising. I voted for that... well, for sure!

My poll now is another one suggested by Laura and Ryan. Well, Laura suggested I add a picture of the puppy. I had a poll about a male puppy earlier (with no picture) and the name 'Toby' won.
(On this new poll I got the names from a site of popular female puppy names.)

Clearly my polls aren't intellectually challenging.... just something to do.

Speaking of that, Ryan found out this week that it will take longer than he thought for his leg to heal. Seems like the surgeon in Taos did a great job, but that bones he broke take a LONG time to heal. (That's according to a Texas bone doctor.)
Anyway, Ryan is going to have some time on his hands now.
(Wonder which puppy name he'll choose.)

Different note... the other night I got to stay with some of my favorite little peeps...

(I think Andrew has had enough of me forever taking his picture. - Ha.)

I forgot to show you my flowers...

I got these on my birthday...
The above cup and saucer filled with beauty is from Jamie, who made the bouquet in the background... that Sam gave me. She, of course made the one she gave me, too.

Here's the one Sam ordered.
And here's his note....

And here are the flowers Mother brought me...

How blessed I am.

[Those flowers are all now pretty much ready for the trash can.... but I think their fragility- and that they don't last forever - makes them more precious.]

Oh, my recent poll is going to be over soon. I hope you voted!

BTW, that poll was inspired by Laura.
On the way home from Taos last week we brainstormed on poll ideas... and I got some good ones. Stay tuned!

Happy National Popcorn Day!

Sometimes
I
don't
know
what
to
blog
about...
...then,
voila!...
I
see
something
on
Facebook
(or wherever)
that
fits
the
bill.

I saw Tayla's status on FB this morning (Hi, Tayla)... and I KNEW what today's topic would be!

I grew up on popcorn on Sunday nights. (It makes a delicious supper... and GREAT MEMORIES.) We'd go to church (Training Union at 6, then the worship service at 7), then we'd come home and pop the corn ... and drink some pop... and watch TV.
When BONANZA started up, we'd often go to the Morrises after church and watch it in color (often with popcorn).... It was the first TV show we ever saw in color. As I recall it was mainly in green and purple.

So this is how my blog goes. I start writing about one thing (popcorn), then it evolves into another thing (BONANZA).

That directs you into my next poll.  Please take it. Thanks so much.

(Did you notice that most of my poll-takers would rather drink hot cocoa with a book than ski or snowboard?  That tells you what most of my poll-takers are like.) (They're like ME.)

On any road trip...

... my favorite part
is almost always
the eating part.

On the way home
from Taos last week
we found an eatery
south of Santa Fe
that won our hearts.

It's called REAL FOOD NATION.

Here's their website: http://realfoodnation.biz/
(You can see that they grow their own veggies, etc.)

The food was delicious.
The service was awesome.
And...
they even
had a couch
for Ryan's leg.

Once we got into Texas
we found some places
with some interesting names...

In Claude there was
the 'CRAZY LITTLE CAFE'.
(We should have at least gone in for a coke - to see how crazy it was.)

In Clarendon there was the place called 'NUTTIN' FANCY CAFE'.
And there was a little motel with the name 'IT'LL DO MOTEL'.
(Maybe the town needs to work on its self-image?)

In Chillicothe there was a quick stop with a huge sign that read 'DANG GOOD CANDY'.
(That sounds really good. Why did we not try some?)

In Childress, there was the appropriately named 'WIRED WABBIT ESPRESSO BAR'.
(We didn't try that, either.)

Hmm. Well, we missed our chances.
But they made my blog.

Do you, dear blog readers, have some interesting named places you'd like to share?
