Worchestershire sauce...

... is Sam's topping for pizza.

When he was in college he used to keep a bottle in his car.  That way he'd be ready if he got some pizza.

We had our Monday night supper last night on Tuesday.... and Sam took our picture... and there it was... the bottle of Worchestershire sauce.

(It looks like a bottle of beer, huh?)

Here's another picture I like from last night...

And here's another...
(I think those sisters are going to be close throughout the years.)

Ah, but here's the best picture from last night...
Everyone is in here, but John.
We're going to photoshop him in behind Elizabeth (next to Sam).
--------
In closing, here's a picture of the queso Sam and I got at Abuelo's Sunday noon.
It had just a little bit of salsa in it to make us smile...

(We did not make that like that!)
I think we were the only people taking pictures of the queso that day.
-------
I'll end with a quote I like...
Today, give a stranger one of your smiles.
It might be the only sunshine he sees all day.

~H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Oh and here's another good quote...
For lack of attention, a thousand forms of loveliness elude us every day.

Realistic?

In Bedford (TX) these two streets run parallel (with one street in between).
When I saw them I had to get their picture....

I'd like to know the story behind that name.... And I think I'd rather live on the first street.
----------
Oh, here are some signs I saw at LoneStar Antiques (5605 Denton Highway, Haltom City, TX) ...

------
In closing, here's cartoon I relate to....

(And yes, I AM still working out - and feeling good!)

Somethings never change...

...like my love for strawberry jam on toast.

I don't know why but that's the only kind of jam I want on my toast.
(Well, unless you have homemade fig preserves, which my mother and grandmother would sometimes have. Mmm.)

You know something else that's never changed?
The school bus!!

I saw one the other day
and thought,
'those
vehicles
NEVER
 change!'

I wonder why.
'Seems like everything else in the world changes but the school bus!

Oh, something else that never changes with me is my (compulsive?) need to be on time.
Why, as a child I used to be the alarm clock for our family. I'd get us up and going.
I don't know why ... maybe I was praised for being punctual once... and since I love praise.... well.. I'm almost never late now. If I AM I start panicking.
'Course with cell phones I can just call... and the panic subsides.
Whew.

What never changes with you? ... or with something you've noticed? (like I noticed the school bus.)

Oh yeah. The Hinton water tower never changes. Hinton, Oklahoma is Sam's hometown. When we lived there back in the mid-eighties there was something about the water tower I liked. Maybe the small town feeling I got when I saw it.
Anyway, there's a certain comfort about it for me.

What about you?
I'd love to know.
(But no pressure.)

(Ah, but I would like you to take my newest poll!! (upper right)
I was reading it to Sam and he said, :Put this on that poll!".... and you can guess which one he suggested.)

I've been given an hour ...

.... to just sit here.
(A doctor's appointment was moved later an hour and a half.) :)

I've decided to look around at blogs... and Facebook... and am amazed and how many folks are praying for my mom, who had a mild stroke earlier this week.  Thank you, thank you!
(She's doing well now.)

I also turned on 'Spa music': you know, relaxing, instrumental music.  (It's 'Soundscapes', channel 1833 on our TV).
And I was looking for a picture of my cousin 'Tennessee Jim' and his dad, Uncle Warren.  They're somewhere in my iPhoto pictures... and I haven't found that picture yet.  (I wanted to show you who were flying in today to see Mother!)
Well, I was looking through the pictures, and listening to that wonderful, mellow music, and all the pictures looked magical.
So I'm going to show them to you.
It would help if you turned on some spa music... to get the effect.
You may not know all these people, but with spa music they look gorgeous (well, they ARE gorgeous) (especially that one person) ....

.....

I just love all those people.

And wow. I'm feeling very relaxed now. ... and blessed.

When you get some time, look through your photographs with soothing, soft, mellow, tranquil, serene music on.
It will mellow you out.
('Course when my kids were young and I'd play that kind of music in the car, well, it would NOT mellow them out.... just the opposite! --- Ha!)(They remember!)

Anyway, do it and see what happens.

Tomorrow...

is a BIG BIRTHDAY for someone we love....

I remember getting the call that you were born!!!! Your mom was screaming with happiness that she had a little girl!!!   ('Course she was thrilled when she had her little boy, too, Cap.)
-------
I won't tell how old you'll be, okay, Elizabeth?  (Sometimes the older women get, the more sensitive they are about that.)
update: Ha!  I just noticed your dad announcing your age to the world on Facebook.
Happy 30th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

Fat Tuesday...

Well, it's Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras... and if you know anything about Brazil you know that that means CARNIVAL... and that means ANYTHING goes.
When we lived in Brazil in the early 80's, we learned about what CARNIVAL means to devout Christians (well, devout Baptists, anyway).
It meant church retreat time.

All the churches would get away from the cities, where 'awful behavior' would be everywhere, and go to a camp site out in the country where we'd pray and read our Bibles and fellowship with other believers.
We'd do the exact opposite of the CARNIVAL attenders in Brazil, especially Rio de Janeiro.

So when I read that Jennifer Lopez and Fergie were going to samba in Rio tonight, well, I went back in my mind and for a few moments had HORRIBLE thoughts about them... like, "How could they be so base and degrading and immoral as to go down there and dance nude and drunken in the streets?"

Hmm.

And then I thought, "Maybe we shouldn't have retreated during Carnival?" Maybe we should have advanced... and not preached in the streets... but gone out and shown love?
And maybe - like Donald Miller tells about in his book BLUE LIKE JAZZ - have a confessional tent. Oh, not one where we'd have folks come in and confess THEIR sins, but where folks would come in and we, the Christ-followers - would confess OUR sins to them. Sins like the "Holy Crusades", and slavery, and our oft-times judgmental attitude, and our colonial missionary work (where we'd go to a country and try and make their culture like ours, instead of just bringing the Good News of Christ to them,), etc., etc.

Donald Miller tells how he and some friends did that at Reed College in Portland and soon folks were lined up outside in long lines to hear the Christians confessing to them.
Miller tells how for some of those folks, considering Christ as humanity's Savior was something they did for the first time in their lives.

Wow.

Maybe we should go to Rio next year!!!

.... Or anywhere, really.

('Course those retreats were good, too. -- I don't mean to discount them. )

It's good to be back.

It's only been since Wednesday that I blogged and said I was taking a hiatus from blogging.
I'm guessing my 'hiatus' is shorter than most folks' hiatuses??

I've been working feverishly on a project (the Bear Valley book) - and I've just about finished my part. I say 'my part' because now the plan is for Sam to add his part. He'll do it alongside my part, maybe - with a different font. Or he'll just put his own chapters in there.

Anyway, I am so proud that these last few days I'd open this laptop and not be (too) distracted by Facebook, news' sites, and blogs!!
-----
On a completely different note, I stayed home from church this morning (for various reasons) and happened to turn on TURNING POINT WITH DAVID JEREMIAH. He is a really good preacher - and he comes on at 9:30 AM on Sundays on Fox 4 (Channel 4) here in the Metroplex.
Anyway, I hit 'pause' to tell Sam about the good sermon I was hearing and just as I did, the camera was scanning the congregation and look what I saw....
I was so excited I had to actually get out my iPhone and take a picture of the TV screen!

There was Laura!!!!!
Well, it looks like her when she was about 16, don't you think??!!

Of course that made me want to get back to blogging again!!

(Blog material is always out there just waiting.... sometimes you don't even have to look for it!!!!)
------
In closing, here's a cartoon I saw that I thought was great....

(I really like that.)
--------
I've got a new poll up!! (Upper right)
Thanks for voting.

Hiatus time...

It has come to my attention that I need some time away from this blog.

It's taking up too much of my time.

I have some projects I need to work on, and what do I do? I sit down and read blogs, and write blog posts, and think about polls for my blog, and get on Facebook, and then blog again, and, then make comments on others' blogs, and then well, those projects get neglected.

Well, they're not as fun as blogging.

(And who knew I would EVER get so into blogging?)
(Why, when I was a child and a person would ask what I wanted to be when I grow up, well, it never even entered my mind to say 'BLOGGER'!)

You can see how I start writing on here - and then I get almost ridiculous.

So I'm stopping blogging and polling for a while.
And Facebook.

('Course I may be back day after tomorrow.)

These are silly....

Yeah, those were silly.

But my love for Honey-Sam is not.
'Course it CAN get silly...
(I keep putting that picture-reel up... I just love it. It was taken at nephew- Justin's wedding reception a while back. I knew I was trying to make funny faces then, but I really didn't know Sam was, too. Seriously. I thought I'd be looking silly-silly and he'd be looking serious-serious. (As he often does, you know.)
(Ha! Was I surprised!)

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Very sad....

One of my absolute favorite voices is stilled...

How very, very sad.

I remember being so surprised that Dolly Parton wrote the song that Whitney Houston made famous, "I Will Always Love You".
Whoa. Who would have thought?

Then, for some reason Sam and I watched THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS (we must have been hard up for movies to watch) and there was Dolly singing that song.

And somewhere along the road we found out that beautiful, talented Whitney had had drug use and erratic behavior... for years.

Life can be sad.

I do know this: ONLY JESUS CAN SATISFY YOUR SOUL.

Yeah, I'm actually taking this grief moment to preach that little sermon.

You may be offended that I would be a holy-jo in this moment... and preach any sermon.

But I'm preaching it.

I know it first-hand.

ONLY JESUS CAN SATISFY YOUR SOUL.

The Grammys are on tonight.
But no Grammy award can satisfy any soul.
-----
I don't know.... I just wanted to blog this.
-----
(I will miss Whitney so much.)
(I liked her voice more than Mariah's .... or Celine's, even.)

Inside and Out....

....she is beautiful.

Here are some pictures of my beautiful mother....

Happy Birthday, Mother!!!

Phantom of the Opera....

Another cowboy-looking man (in his seventies, I think) came into the tea room....
... and I thought, I'd better play some "Born to Lose" or Floyd Cramer's "Last Date".
After that I played some "Sound of Music", and then some "Phantom of the Opera" for a table of refined-looking ladies that I thought would really enjoy all that.

When I was leaving the tea room, the seventy-ish cowboy told me he just loved my "Phantom of the Opera" tunes.
Whoa.

You just never know.
-----
On a different note, my mom has a birthday tomorrow.
We're going to be together all day.
It will be so fun!!

At Parkwood, her retirement center, the theme is COWBOY.... so we're dressing western... and may speak like Chester on "GUNSMOKE"...

Oh, did you know? Dennis Weaver (Chester) was my grandmother's cousin's son?
I'm serious.
I am related to Chester!!!

Oh, if you missed my 'music profiling' post, click HERE to go there. (It would explain this post.)

(I've quit priding myself in guessing what music people like.)

Take my First Lady poll if you haven't already (upper right).
(Soon I'll blog about real BEAUTY... and refer to it.)
