I am loving reading all the words of thanksgiving on Facebook these days.
(Many of my FB friends are doing the 30 Days of Gratitude this month. Every single day they put up another thing they're thankful for.... and they're all different - some specific, some general. It's wonderful.... and makes me thankful for Facebook.)
So for what do I want to tell you that I'm thankful?
The first thing I thought of was this...
When I was in my early twenties and single I 'discovered' it. Well, I was raised in a wonderful Christian home and we had our DBRs (Daily Bible Readings), but it wasn't until I was out on my own that I began taking it seriously.
It was a friend named Kathy Bailey from Edinburg that I knew in high school (from being in (Baptist) Magic Valley Youth Choir with her - as her roommate on tour) and a friend in college, a Mary Jane Bailey (from our singing group CATCH THE SON (yes, that was the name (Hi Deanna, Rita!), who were so effervescent in their Christian faith that, well, at first it made me nauseated. Really, they were too happy in Jesus to be real. (Someone told Mary Jane to not smile so much in the church choir... it was not a reverent thing to do. And really....)
Anyway, long story short, their joy somehow led me to wanting to seriously read the Bible for myself.
So I did.
It changed my life.
I found myself being a voracious reader of those letters from the Apostle Paul near the back of the Bible, like Ephesians, and Colossians (I LOVE Colossians), Philippians.....
That's it for today.
(I never know where my blog will take me. Yesterday my post was about not flirting with married people.)
