The question....

"Where IS Baylor?"
... is what several folks in southern California asked us when we were there for the Holiday Bowl (which we won! 49-26 against UCLA!!!).

(Here's a picture, by the way, taken from our hotel room window in San Diego...
Talk about beautiful.
Back to the question: several folks didn't know anything about Baylor... so they asked.

When we replied, "Baylor is in Waco, Texas" one person said something like, "Oh, that's where the shootout was!"
Another person (at a different time) said, "Oh, that's where the cult siege was!"

[You can click HERE to read about the 'Waco Siege' in 1993.]

A few years ago when I told an acquaintance (a lady from Vancouver) that I went to Baylor which was in Waco, TX, she asked, "Did you KNOW David Koresh?"
I said, "No."  And I added, "I don't know anybody who knew him."

She seemed relieved.

I was expecting to answer again about Koresh when I told another man that Baylor is in Waco, Texas.
"Oh really?" he said. "Well, I want my daughter to live in Texas... because I want her to be able to carry a handgun so she can defend herself!"
"Right." I said.

So San Diegans found us to be an interesting folk.

And we found THEM to be interesting.  So many of them were sitting near us at the game.  We kept hearing them talking about who they were going to cheer for.   So many of them were undecided!!
Seems they always attended the Holiday Bowl, no matter who was playing.
I overheard one man nearby telling his friend, "I'm rooting for Baylor.... because I really like that Robert Griffin the Third!"
I think that convinced his friend to root for Baylor, too!  Sic 'Em, Bears!!

Speaking of RG3... he's playing NOW... against the Cowboys.

(Now Sam and I are Washington Redskins fans!!!)

On a totally different note, six years ago tonight
my dear died lost his fight against cancer.

He would so be watching this football game.
And every one this season.
(And he'd tape them and watch them again... and again.)
(You miss a lot if you just once them once.)

On a side note, my dear dad lived long enough
to know about his first little great grandchild, Caroline,
who was born two days before he died.
Daddy smiled so big and gave a big thumbs up when we told him about little Caroline Elizabeth.

She turned six Friday!

Happy Belated Birthday, Sweet Caroline!!!!

I have a poll up (upper right)- please take it if you can.
You might have to do several clicks to get your vote registered!  (sigh))
Happy New Year!!

The Fiasco...

... that turned Fantastic!!

Well, before I tell you about that let me say....

And we were there!!
(I took that last picture (not the first two).)

But there was FIASCO for us before the game.

In my last post I told of my favorite things this Christmas.
I didn't mention one of my most favorite things- tickets that Sam and I gave to ourselves for the Holiday Bowl in San Diego.  (If I'd made it public the bad blog-reader might have broken into our home while we were gone.  I couldn't chance that.)

We flew out to beautiful San Diego Wednesday night to watch Baylor play UCLA the next day.

We get to the hotel at 11:00 PM (California time - 1:00 AM Texas (our) time).   We're so ready for bed, but we have to wait in a line to get registered.
When we finally (30 minutes later!) get up to the hotel desk, the man tells us our room isn't ready!  (It's 11:30 at night!)  He said it would be ready in 30 minutes.   He gives us a voucher to get a snack in the bar.  We go to the bar, and they tell us the kitchen just closed.  So we get something to drink, and eat a Snickers bar we had in my purse.
(All over the lobby people have been waiting  - and are sprawled out on chairs and sofas- including some old friends that we visit with for a couple of those hours.... (though none of us was feeling sociable (speaking for myself).)

Three hours later (yes, that's THREE HOURS LATER) at 2:00 AM (4:00 AM Texas time) we get into our room.

It turned out great, though!
We got vouchers, vouchers, and more vouchers!    And that first night (which was super short) was free (as well it should have been).
My favorite voucher was for an hour long massage in the spa (which I made time for).
....AND all our food was paid for.   'Course we're still tired, but the hotel did make up (with those vouchers) for the fiasco  (which had to do with work being done at the hotel, that wasn't communicated to the front desk (something like that).

The game was fun... but cold...

I'd taken this scarf to wear, Elizabeth, ...
(Elizabeth gave it to me last year.)
(Thank you!)

Because of the cold I had to cover it up!
(Who would have thought San Diego would be COLD!!)

The game was great, though.... with a super score:
Baylor 49 - UCLA 26!

Now we're home.

There's more to say, especially about some nice San Diegans that we met, who didn't know where  Baylor was, etc.   They said some interesting things, and asked some interesting questions!)
... I'll blog about them later.

(I need to rest now.)

New poll is up (upper right).   (Hopefully it will 'take' your vote!)

My Favorite Things...

... that I got this Christmas...
Bailey drew my name and gave me some precious Scottish treasures!!
That's a Christmas ornament in the above picture. (Golf was invented in Scotland!)

Oh, and look at this mug!!...
It shows all of the special places in Glasgow!

And this Scottish cow picture holder is a super treat...
... with a picture of us when we went to Scotland at Halloween (Bailey got us our 'costumes')!

Oh and look at this Loch Ness Monster figurine she gave me!!....
Is that not cute!?
(Yes, it's in 4 pieces!)

And the colorful necklace I'm wearing in this next picture came from a cute shop in Scotland named NANCY'S SMILES!!!
Thank you, Bailey, for EVERYTHING!!

Sam gave me a pretty Baylor necklace.  I'm wearing it in the above picture... but here it is up close...
I'll tell you later about why that necklace was given to me at just the right time!

Mother gave me a wonderful purse....
If you look closely you'll read the Fruits of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22.
Thank you, Mother!!!

This next gift fits Sam and me (especially me) SO WELL.....
That's a tea towel that was part of Elizabeth, John and family's gift to us!
I love it!!

Well, I have other favorite things... but I'll have to tell you about them later, for reasons I'll tell you about later.

Until later.....

It was wonderful!

Christmas, 2012...
(These pictures are not in the order they were taken.)

When Santa saw those ugly teeth at the store, he couldn't resist buying them.

(Is Santa going to call the dentist?)

As I mentioned (and you could tell), those pictures are not in any order.
(If I were more rested I would have put them in order, and written captions for them...
... but that might have taken a few days (to get rested)...
...and I couldn't wait.)

I have a new poll up (upper right).
Thanks for voting!!
(I did have trouble voting, but it finally worked after I clicked my vote 3 times.)

A: He wanted to sleep like a log.

Q: What nationality is Santa Claus?

Q: Why did Santa spell Christmas N-O-E?

Is this for real?

This Baby Jesus stuff?

Well, I stake my life on it being real.

And I don't think I'm an 'ignoramus'.

But I WOULD go along with the quote, "I'll take it (Christianity) until something better comes along."

When I heard that quote years ago it sounded so odd.... and almost blasphemous.   It would be like me saying, "I'll take Sam as my husband until someone better comes along."   (Sadly many view marriage that way.) And to make that saying about Jesus, well, that was hideous.

Yet that saying somehow resonated with me.... mainly because I had a tendency to doubt the whole idea of God... and well, that quote gave me an out.
It kind of LET ME DOUBT.

Anyway, through the years I have affirmed OVER AND OVER the veracity of Scripture, and the truth of Jesus being the Truth, the Life and the Way.
And my faith has given me a calmness of soul and a joy that nothing in this world can destroy.

I mean it.

That's not to say I'm always perky (heaven forbid), but I have peace, for the most part.
And that spells R-E-L-I-E-F.

[And will anything better come along?  It can't when the best already has come along!]

On a similar note, I found a fantastic article recently (really, a blog post) that I want you to read if you're an atheist. It's called "Two Common Atheist Arguments".
Maybe you've never been anywhere near being an atheist.... you still might want to read it, though, so you could counter those arguments (in a loving way).

I'll leave you with some pictures of some of our nativity scenes (Sam has been collecting them through the years....

That last one is the oldest... and it used to be in my home when I was growing up.
That would make it the most meaningful.

I have a new poll up.  You might need to click 'Change your vote'... or 'Show your vote' a couple of times to make your vote count.  (Sorry for that frustration.)

These Are a Few of my Favorite Things

I really, REALLY like this... I got this for my birthday! It's a key chain and there is none other like it!! I ADORE IT!! Thank you!!   ...
