They're celebrating WHAT?!?

Feral hogs!

Yes, they're wild hogs... that are usually vicious.... but everybody deserves a celebration, right?

This weekend in Ben Wheeler, TX they're having the annual Feral Hog Festival.

How do I know this?  Well, my parents used to have a Ben Wheeler address!!!   (Their phone was out of Van, their church was in Canton, Mother taught in Van, they banked in both Canton and Van .. and they actually lived in Colfax (which is not on this map) (this was after they lived in the Rio Grande Valley, where I grew up.) (Daddy bought his grandfather's homesite in Colfax, and they moved there in 1976-ish.)

About the festival for the feral hogs: it seems the people of Ben Wheeler had been getting so annoyed with the hogs ruining their gardens, and, well, just taking over, eating plants and other animals, that what could they do?   Well, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right?

Brooks Gremmels, co-found of the Ben Wheeler Arts and Historic District Foundation, has said that since the beginning of the Festival in 2008 that, "We're just making lemonade out of lemons."
Anyway, if you want a fun time, go to Ben Wheeler this weekend!!

There are other festivals in east Texas that you won't want to miss.
My husband loves peanut butter. Well, there's the Grand Saline Great American Peanut Butter Festival November 9th.

We've already missed some:  the Van Oil Festival was Oct. 12.
Also, the Autumn Stroll Festival in downtown Canton was also Oct. 12.

Anyway, Ben Wheeler is becoming quite the tourist attraction.
I like this sign....

Here it is on a building in Ben Wheeler...

And yes, they will crown a Feral Hog Queen.... and I'm guessing she will be beautiful.

(Next time I'll tell you about last Saturday.)
