It's been a wonderful year....

....for Sam and me.

Maybe not for the USA, though....
It's nice to get a new start, huh?

As for us, in 2013 we got a granddaughter....

And both of her parents got their master's degrees from the University of Glasgow in Scotland...
They both graduated 'with merit'-which is like 'cum laude' here.
We're so proud.

Other things happened in 2013.
Lots of good things.... family reunions, birthday parties, a Russia trip.  (I don't know why I wanted that Russia trip to look like no big deal.  IT WAS A MAJOR BIG DEAL!... and we're going back next September!!!!)

Oh, and we're going to China in April! (also as part of B.H. Carroll Theological Institute.)
I was glad to see this article: "Expert Tips for Doing Business in China" in USATODAY yesterday.
It looks like our daughter is going to have to teach us to use chopsticks, finally.

Right now she and her hubby are in Durango, CO skiing.
Here's a picture of their first day.
I love that picture.
And them.

Tonight I get to do my Grammy duties!
Or I should say, my Grammy 'lovies'!!

Even if Nell just lies there... I could stare at her forever.

I will close by telling you this:
I'm letting my hair go gray.

Here's a selfie I just took..

(I need to work on taking selfies. )

Awwwwwwwww - ad infinitum .......

I was doing some picking up last night and found this on the kitchen table...
I remember that Andrew (age 5) had asked me if he could use the new stickers I'd put in the toy drawer and stick them on some paper.
I said yes, and got some printer paper out.

And then everyone left... and I finally saw what he did.
Do you see it?  It's a world map with the animals where they live!
(I widened the margins on this blog, so I could make the picture extra-large.)

I'm so impressed!

(Update:  I was just told that it was Caroline who did animals in the continents.... STILL, I'M IMPRESSED!!  (Caroline will just turn 7 this Saturday!)  (Oh yes, I'm impressed, Caroline!!!!)
On a different note: earlier, after we had the glorious Christmas breakfast, that the guys cooked (Sam, Will, Ryan and John), Caroline played for us on the piano!  (I need somebody (Will?) to send me a picture of that.)

You may have seen on Facebook where I made this my cover picture...
That's Mother with her four great-grandchildren: Caroline holding Baby Nell, and Andrew and Anna.... who got some beautiful boots (the only thing she wanted!) ...

Here's Laura talking to the threesome in the living room...
You can tell that Anna seriously likes to color!

Ah, but the star of the show was Nell ....
.... because it was her very first Christmas!

Here's Nell with her Uncle Ryan and Aunt Laura....

And here she is with Elizabeth....

I've noticed that 'awwww' is a word now.
I've seen it on Facebook, and I've used it many times myself.
Each time I put a different number of 'w's in it.
(It depends on how much 'awwww' I'm feeling as to the number.)

Really that above picture (and the others) ought to be...

Oh yeah.

I have things to do... but first I HAVE to show you these pictures!

It's a special Christmas this year....
Those are pictures I took of the front and back
of perhaps the classiest baby announcement ever.
And here's Caroline at her first piano recital,
which was Saturday...
Caroline played "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and "Up on the Rooftop"
... she was AMAZING!

Here she is with her cousin Abigail ...
Aren't they adorable?

And here's Abigail with her beautiful Mimi....
They were enjoying the recital...
which was at the Atria Retirement Center in Grapevine.
(I think having a piano recital at a retirement center is great!)

Oh, here's a picture of Caroline and me..
I wish I'd gotten a full-length picture of her....
her dress was gorgeous.

On Sunday afternoon, we went over to Frisco
to an Open House at my Cousin Carol's new home.
This picture doesn't do it justice.

Ah, but let's go inside...

And there's Dale with some guests out in the back...
Their back 'yard' is amazing.
And they have a creek back there.

They have a nice upstairs, too.

(The pictures of their two beautiful Christmas trees didn't turn out.)

But here are their two sons....
That's Ethan on the left, a sophomore in high school,
and Eric on the right, a freshman at Texas A&M.

This next picture tells you how tall they are...
That's Sam (my husband) in the middle.
He's 5'11''.

Oh, here's Eric's 6-week-old chocolate lab...

Her name is Dixie, and she is precious.

Since I don't have pictures of Dale and Carol from Sunday
(what was I thinking?),
here's an older picture of them with the boys....

And here's a really old picture of Carol with her parents and brothers....
That's my Aunt Helen up there.
I think she looks remarkably cool and collected in that picture,
considering she had to get that group ready for that pose!

Here's Carol in a more recent picture with her brothers....
That's Brian, Carol, Steve, and David.
They are my only first cousins on my dad's side...
(since my dad just had the one sister)
(who's 9 years younger than him)
... so we're all pretty close.

I knew you wanted to know all those details.
In closing, here are two Christmas trees...

Here's Laura's and Ryan's....

And here's Will's, Bailey's, and Nell's...

I'd show you Sam's and mine, but I haven't taken its picture yet.

Now I need to get on with my day.
(But I had to blog first!)

Did you see what I saw?

Yesterday I saw the Christmas Village in the Simpliteas Tea Room in LoneStar Antiques (5605 Denton Highway, Haltom City, TX) with these people....
That's Ryan (my son-in-law), Laura (my daughter), and our dear friend, Linh.

Here are some more pictures of the village I took earlier in the week...

(It will be up till after New Year's.)

Before they studied that village the trio had lunch...
I just love those people.
They are each so interesting.
 Linh is in medical school,
Ryan is getting his master's in nursing,
and Laura is an elementary art teacher.
Hmm.  I guess I don't have much in common with them.

For one thing I've never taken an art lesson in my life.

Laura took art in high school, then majored in Art History in college (Baylor)
- even studying a semester in Florence, Italy,
and then she got a Master's in Art Education at the University of North Texas.
Now she teaches elementary art in the Richardson Independent School District.

She's helped me realize how good visual art is for the soul.

This past week I gave some of her art work to the tea room wait staff, and the chef and his wife, Maria, and to a few extra special customers.  I gave it to them in mugs.  Here are just three of them...
I think they are so unique ... and beautiful.

You can see more of her art work
(and buy it, if you'd like),
by clicking HERE to go to her Society6 site.

Here's some of her art that hangs in our breakfast nook...

And here's some more in the kitchen....

Here's out it is...
That's the door to the laundry room and pantry.

I usually put Christmas art up in those places, but this year no.
I wanted to keep Laura's art up...
because I love it.

And her.

Oh, and here's a squirrel she did in pen....

I can't even begin to imagine drawing that.

Here she is in our family Christmas picture back in the eighties....
That's her on the left,
sweetness herself.

We had no idea at that time how talented how kids were.
