Remember your training??

A dear friend of mine, Jenny (a mother of 3 small children), recently put this on Facebook with these words prefacing it, "This is how I feel raising children."

Have you ever felt like that?

 I have!!! (on many levels!)

Here she is with her little ones on Mother's Day last week...
Jenny looks as if she has it all together.
And I'm sure she has it more together than she thinks.

But I can remember feeling inept. INEPT, totally. And yet, I had a good mother and father, who showed me the way in parenting... but when it came down to two little ones totally dependent on me and my hubby, who had never had kids either, well, I felt kind of 'inept'.

I remember getting 'PARENTS' magazine back in the '80's. I would look through it, and well, I found conflicting info on how to handle little ones' defiance.
Finally I made the decision to NOT get that subscription anymore.
 It was freeing.

I decided to just love my kids. And not seek perfection in raising them.

Sam and I had children after a lot of our friends had children. We'd get in the car (after being with said friends) and say, "We're never going to let our children get away with that!"
HA!
When we had kids we ATE OUR WORDS.

Parenting is hard.
Children are different. Each and every child is different, and each requires different parenting skills.
That's what I think.
With Laura we could use a stern look...and she would obey.
Not with Will. He required more than a stern look.

But everyone is different. Not just children... but parents.

Here's my challenge...
What is your advice for parents with young children... so that the parents AND the children keep their sanity?

Is there training?
I know:
"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." Proverbs 22: 2

"Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." Ephesians 6:4
I would so like your advice - via Facebook comments, or comments here (even anonymous) on raising (rearing) children: WHAT ADVICE HAS HELPED YOU MOST???

Me: I'm thinking to just love those little folks. Love them unconditionally.... and totally.
Oh yeah.
Well, and make them mind... but LOVE THEM!!!!

WHAT ADVICE HAS HELPED YOU MOST???

Please leave a comment here  - or on Facebook.
I would so love that.

Thanks so much.
