What is the poison powder that Victorian women used to make their skin look pale?
Answer: Arsenic
Proper ladies during the Victorian era used a mixture of vinegar, chalk, and arsenic applied to their skin to make it paler and even white. Besides just being beautiful for the moment, it was also thought to prevent aging and wrinkles of the skin on the face and neck. Unfortunately, some arsenic was absorbed into the blood stream and the lady would have bouts of feeling unwell. It wouldn't necessarily cause death in such small doses but it certainly wasn't beneficial.
