Fast and Curious...

... was our trip to Portland this weekend. (I'm still here as I type.)

I did go home a week ago Saturday, but had the chance to come back a week later, so I took it.

Long story short, Sam hadn't seen his new newest grandson, Ransom, and was absolutely 'chomping at the bit' to see him for himself and see just how adorable he was (is). Sam found us air miles (yay) we could use so we hopped on the plane and arrived Saturday morning.

(Vicki, I hugged Ransom super tight and told him his Nana and Pappy were coming soon!)

Here are some pictures of the fast weekend...

This is what you (we) see out the front window.
Notice the single rose.

It had its own glory.

So now we are getting ready to head to the Portland airport, to fly home...
so we can hand out some treats tonight!
(Nell and Liam will be coming!)

Here are some pictures I found for today, which is 5 days till Halloween!

That's Andrew, Caroline, and Anna a few years ago.

That's Andrew at the Fall Festival at First Baptist Church, Grapevine a year or two earlier.
His mother and Caroline are in the background.

Here is the whole family just a few years ago...

Here is granddaughter Nell, just last year...
The very next day her little brother was born!

Here are my kids years ago...

Here they are with their parents a few years later...

What are you going to be this Halloween?

Me, I'm going to be a grandmother, handing out treats
(which I had Sam hide till Halloween).

Trivia Tuesday

I usually post pictures to help you 'see' the trivia.

I'll just post three pictures today to tell about one of my pieces of trivia, okay?

That's me with my new grandson Ransom.
Ransom was born on October 18th.
I was thrilled to find out that he shares that birthday with my dear Granddaddy Andy!!!

So Ransom and his great-great granddaddy Andy were born on the same day!
That is my Granddaddy Andy on the right, behind my twin Peggy.
(My father is behind me.)
My great granddaddy, Will White, is in the middle.
I love that picture of 4 generations!

Here is Granddaddy Andy with his tomato stalk...
I've shown those two pictures of Granddaddy Andy before on this blog.
I was glad I had a reason to show them again!

So now for the rest of my random trivia, with no pictures...

The "sixth sick sheik's sixth sheep's sick"
is believed to be the toughest tongue twister in the English language.

Cat urine glows under a black-light.

Rubber bands last longer when refrigerated.

There are 293 ways to make change for a dollar.

Almonds are a member of the peach family.

How much does a gallon of water weigh? 10 lbs.

How many legs does a fly have? Six.

How many eyes does an earthworm have? None.

"Stewardesses" is the longest word that is typed with only the left hand.

The terms "fall" and "autumn" are used interchangeably,
though the latter is more popular among British people.

Sharks apparently are the only animals that never get sick.
As far as is known, they are immune to every known disease including cancer.

It is impossible for most people to lick their own elbow. (try it!)

It is physically impossible for pigs to look up into the sky.

So now we know!

At ease...

A lot of folks I know need to relax, including me, myself and I.

So for today (Sunday), I'm going to post some pictures and posters I like that help me relax.
Some them are about solitude, which to me can be very relaxing.

These last two pics are particularly wonderful to me.
I took this picture September a year ago, at Generations Beach House in Florida.

And there's this...
I took that a couple of days ago.
Sweet Olive is napping under the coffee table
while his folks relax with Ransom on the couch..

Well, I'm relaxing for sure now.
Thanks for letting me.

What's in a name?

As you may (or may not) know, I have a new grandson!

This picture was taken before we left the birthing center.
I'm on the left, then Ryan (my son-in-law) and Laura (daughter)...
with Ransom William Maxwell.

That gives you some statistics.

Here is he for his first car ride home...

Here he is home, with his older 'brother' and 'sister'...
Olive is on the far left, with Akon on the far right.
That was sweet family time.

So how did Baby Ransom get his name?

Well, his parents are avid readers of the works of the intellectual giant, C.S. Lewis.
You can click HERE to go to his website.
And you can click HERE to read his biography on that website.

In Lewis' The Space Trilogy, Dr. Elwin Ransom (who goes by 'Ransom') is the main character in the first two books,
and a major character in the third book.

Hence, Ransom Maxwell!!!

And I would say he is a handsome Ransom!!

Now that makes me think of my granddaughter Nell, whose parents are my son and his wife, Bailey Jo. Will and Bailey read a very good science fiction novel with the main character being named 'Nell'.
Hence 'Nell Carmack'.

My other grandchild is not named after a science fiction character.
He is Samuel Williams Carmack VII.
(Yes, he's the 7th!)
Hence Liam (WilLIAMs).

I will close with some interesting info about C.S. Lewis.
He was dear friends with J.R.R. Tolkien, of THE HOBBIT, LORD OF THE RINGS, etc., fame.

This past September this article was published about them (Lewis and Tolkien)...
"It's 85 Years Ago Today: J.R. Tolkien Convinces C.S. Lewis That Christ is the True Myth."
So now you know about Ransom.
And Nell.
And Liam.

I'm a happy Grammy.

ThrowBack Thursday, with father and son... and more!

Here is our son, Will (Samuel Williams Carmack VI), back in 1985 when he was one-year-old...

And here is his son, Liam (Samuel Williams Carmack VII), two days ago, about a month before he is one-year-old....

They look alike, don't you think?!!?!

And I love that!!!

In other ThrowBack Thursday news, I found this picture recently...
That's my Sam second from left (before I met him).
And that's his dad on the left, his sister Pat in the middle, her husband Ken, holding their little Jennifer,
and that's my mother-in-law Oleta, who was the best mother-in-law anyone could have.

I think that's a great picture.

Do you see how adoringly Oleta is looking at her granddaughter?

And here is Sam's and my engagement picture, taken in the spring of 1978...
I like that picture.
Several years ago someone told us we look alike.
I think we kind of do, in that picture.

Soon, yes very soon, our little girl will have our third grandchild.

Here she is with me, in August of 1986...

And here she is just over a week ago...

I think I'm ready.

Well, I have this book...

I got that book (I bought it for myself) when our first grandchild was born almost 3 years ago.
I'm thinking that now I might need to read it, finally!!

I'll keep you informed of Baby Boy Maxwell's appearance!!
(All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go.)
