Trivia Tuesday

I have some random trivia, and then some special trivia from what is becoming one of my favorite cities in the world.

First random trivia...

In Disney's FANTASIA, the Sorcerer's name is Yensid, which is Disney spelled backward.

Felix the Cat is the first cartoon character to ever have been made into a balloon for a parade.

Beaver teeth are so sharp that Native Americans once used them as knife blades.

All gondolas in Venice, Italy must be painted black, unless they belong to a high official.

One plain milk chocolate candy bar has more protein than a banana.

Now for some trivia from my new favorite city...

Portland, OR has been voted in the Top 5 for Greenest Cities, Cleanest Cities, Best City to Have a Baby (!), Largest Bicycle Commuter City, and Top Food and Bar Scene in the United States.

Next time you’re getting married, head to Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland where they offer legal marriage ceremonies.

It’s no surprise bikes are so popular in Portland, it comes in as the second most bike friendly place to be in the country, behind Minneapolis (interesting about Minneapolis, I think).

Famous for drawing some oddly shaped yellow cartoon characters, Matt Groening is a Portlandian. A lot of the Simpson characters are named after streets and spots in Portland.

There’s a $500 fine if you try to pump your own gas in Portland.

You could eat at a Portland food cart every night for two years before you’d be forced to eat at the same place twice.

Mill Ends Park in Portland is only 2.5 feet in diameter, making it the tiniest park in the entire world.

Portland regularly tops the list for the most courteous drivers in the country.

Portland has one of the highest voter participation rates of anywhere in the country, often attributed to Oregon’s revolutionary plan to have voters mail in their ballots. (Laura and Ryan sent in their votes last week.)

Powell’s City of Books can be found in downtown Portland, the world’s largest independently owned bookstore.

Portland is the only major US city to have a dormant volcano within city limits. Dormant means the volcano is sleeping and there is the potential that it could wake up at some point.
[Whoa. Don't wake up!!]

All of the today's trivia seemed harmless, except that last bit!
Whoa. Don't wake up, DV (dormant volcano)!!

The first TV show to be put into reruns was "The Lone Ranger.” The "Hi-Yo Silver!" shout at the beginning of each episode...
