According to Irish legend, Saint Patrick used the shamrock as a metaphor for the Holy Trinity when he was first introducing Christianity to Ireland.

In Chicago every year, the Plumbers Local 110 union dyes the river "Kelly" green. The dye lasts for about five hours. (Hmm. Not sure if this is happening this year. Probably not.)

You can celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Irish-inspired foods like corned beef and cabbage, shepherd's pie and Irish soda bread.
